Fvcker from china always tries to brute force my FTP

yhelothar

Lifer
I'm suspecting the China IP's to be proxies, since the guy once tried to brute force with a texas IP.
I can tell it's the same person all the time as they always try administrator as the login name.
I tried changing the DNS address, but it didn't take him long to find the new one, so I'm thinking he's someone I know and regularly give my ftp address to.

How do I stop the hacking?
:|

i dunno. router block the IP? throw this into networking forum?
rename administrator to adm1n1st4t0r?

umm usually these attackes come from zombie-nets more so than anything else. It's someone elses compromised pc that's sending em, rather than some hacker in particular.

If you use linux, you can get tools that monitor logs and add ipchain rules to deny the attacking hosts.

I've banned several ip ranges already.
It's too much work to type in the address of whomever that wants to enter every time.
Oh, and there isn't even an administrator account, so they're trying to brute force a non-existant account

lol. my server sends me logs every night about who tried to hack into it, and it's pages long. none of them actually get in.

Same here.. but when your ftp server is on your personal computer, you don't want it to hamper your computer's performance from heavy loading.

oops typo, i meant personal computer.

change the ftp port and notify the legitimate users
or use sftp and change the default port

and btw, wrong forum 🙂

edit: this assumes that you didn't post link to your ftp that got harvested somehow
