No matter what they say, stick to your guns no matter how far you have to escalate (if you've got the balls, which I wouldn't). They screwed up and gave you the wrong information, AND confirmed that information originally. You were under no obligation to go and follow up on it to verify that the agent was telling you the truth (though it might have been a good idea and you'll know better now).

Of course make sure the second seat is next to you. Don't want to have one cat near the back and you at the front.

No go :/ I went as high as they would let me go. (Pam claims to be the supervisor for the whole office) She said their policy is 1 pet per passenger and they won't even let me take both on if I bought another seat. She kept telling me that if I'm looking for compensation that I could call customer relations until I told her that I'm not a greedy bastard like US Airways and I could give a rat's ass about money. I then asked her how could they let so many incompetent people work their and she tells me they just hired 500 new people (which I replied that it's not my problem) and they are still training them. I told her if they want to run the place right, they shouldn't put out untrained people on the phones.

Fvck them. I'll call their customer relations later today when I've calmed down a bit.

It looks like Delta has a better policy. Would it be advisable to put both pets in a single cargo box?

Only if you get them hopped up on PCP first and tell each one that the other was talking about his mom.

I wouldn't advise trying to put two animals into a single cage that will fit under a seat. They might fit, but it won't be comfortable and would be kind of cruel.

Delta does point out that they can be taken as baggage, or shipped. I think you're going to have to go with one of those options.

Pam claims to be the supervisor for the whole office

Did you get Pam's full name? Always best to get that if you're going to call customer service. (I did once run into a telephone company agent who claimed they weren't allowed to give out their last names to customers, when I was working with an ISP. Bull.)

Did they at least say they'd refund your ENTIRE charges?

USAirways policy on pets
One small domestic dog, cat, bird, or small aquarium fish (less than 4 inches) per passenger is accepted in the passenger cabin for an $80 fee each way.
The pets page was not easy to find but it is there under ticketing and travel policies.
I would have researched the policy online before buying the ticket as you really cannot rely on what any CSR will say because it may be wrong as was the case.

One generally has a right to expect that when an agent of a company is telling you what their policy is, that they're providing information based on what they KNOW is accurate, not just on what they kind of think seems like it ought to be right. That agent could have just as easily, if not more easily, looked up their policy or asked her supervisor.

Unfortunately, the airline can pretty much do what they want. I doubt this could even be called breach of contract, they can cancel your ticket for any reason.

You should go on Geraldo and tell your story. Expose the airline industry.

One other thing: It won't help changing airlines. I think they all allow one in-cabin animal per ticketed passenger. (After all, the animal carrier needs to fit under the seat--were you going to put two cats in one carrier?) I think your only option is to have one cat fly as cargo.
Is that safe?

Right now the supervisor is telling me that if the passenger next to me allows me, I can put the other cat under his/her seat. She has no answer for me when I ask her what if the person says no.

My take is, I was told that it wouldn't be a problem. Now they have to do something to accommodate me since I cancelled my other reservations.
There's a pressurized, temperature controlled cargo area for animals... at least on long-haul aircraft. My family and I have taken dogs on the plane as cargo when we lived overseas and came back to the US.

If the supervisor is saying you can take both cats onboard if the person next to you is okay with it, just go with it. It's likely that you'll figure out if they're going to let it go at check-in. I've seen a lot of people who were asked to show the cat at check-in. I've even seen a guy argue with the check-in agent about the weight of his cat at JFK's AA check-in counter.

Good luck!

They are *fairly* safe. The area they are in is temperature controlled ONLY if the engines are spun up. My parents were involved with a flight where the plane had to sit out on the runway in line for a bit over an hour. Because they shut everything down to save fuel, some (if not all) ofthe animals below died from the heat.

Yup, and in this case it sounds like the OP's proof is in the confirmation total. The charges were for one ticket and two pets.

I'm sorry, but did anyone else chuckle when they read that? I'd be pi$$ed if it was my dog, but that is just F'ed up. Still made me laugh, though.

To be honest I would not trust any of the airlines to get my pet from point A to B safely as checked baggage, especially in the summertime. I have read so real horror stories of pets crates being left out in the heat in those baggage carriers among other things.

Northwest is one airline that will not allow pets in cargo during the summer.
Others may have the same policy (or should)

Yep they refunded my entire amount. Also I got her full name as well as the other so called supervisors. I was thinking a big cage that both can fit in.

EDIT: Delta told me they have an embargo on checking in animals cause of the temperature 🙁 Why is this so freaking hard

When I worked for Dish Network, they were very adamant that people be careful about who they give their last names out to over the phone... apparently some nutjob had gotten his CSR's first and last name and decided that since he wasn't happy with his bill he'd roll over to the call center with a car full of rifles.

From that point on I refused to ever give my last name to anyone that I spoke to... they could have my employee ID# and my first name, that's it.

Well as long as you actually provided the ID number, that's just as good. But people named Bob who refuse to provide any other identifying information when you want to call the corporate customer service, that's just bad service on top of bad service.
