God damn! I left work early (which at my work is on time) today and took some buddies on a trip to Good Guys are Arden to get my girlfriend an "I love you" gift of an AT&T Motorola V60 because I'm going down to So Cal in a week and a half and I want to talk to her.

So, I get there at 8 and fill out everything and they tell me they need to do the regular old credit check. I tell them if its ok that I come back in half an hour and pick up the phone and pay for it. Well, I get there at 8:40 and I have to wait 10 minutes before I get any help at all, and it turns out that nobody ran my credit check, so they'll have to do it now. I wait for another 15-20 minutes and they tell me nope, the AT&T credit check center is closed so they can't sell me the phone. FVCK! I have an AT&T phone, and credit cards and work full time so I'm pretty sure I can qualify for their lousy credit rating. So, the manager gives me crap about how they are so cheap and crap while amazon will give it to me for free and I don't have to deal with these lazy ass workers. They won't even let me pay full price for the phone and give me it back later when they run through the credit check. I'm stuck in their damn store an hour and all they can give me is, you should buy it from us. I even talked to the store manager and was treated like some fvcken kid that probably was paying for it with his parent's money.

Anyway, after leaving the damn store my radiator cracks, shooting my car temperature from the optimal half-way mark to the red zone. I spend about half an hour waiting for the engine to cool down and hose it with some water at the nearest gas station. After that, I buy some anti-freeze/coolent and some radiator temp fix goo that I shove into it. It seems to fix it well and spend another half hour to an hour getting it all running before I decide the car is safe to drive.

With my heat on full blast and all 4 windows down, I drive my 30 miles back to Davis with hot hot air coming at my face and semi-cool air rushing in from the windows.

Ok, end rant and I feel a bit better. FVCK GOOD GUYS and god damn, I wonder how muc hit'll cost me to fix my car. Coolent system flush is like 50 bucks and I don't even know if its just the radiator or an additional electrical problem because the radiator fans didn't turn either. God damn!

On a good note though, I met some helpful people outside of Arco although all but one asked me for some spare change afterwards.

EDIT: Currently looking for corporate The Good Guys address to write my complaint to.

Should have gone to the verizon store down the street, they checked my credit in like 5 minutes. I bought a phone in no time at all :)

:) I wanted an AT&T phone though because they seem to have the best reception in Davis, plus, I could combine her plan with mine and get shared minutes between the phone for a cheaper price.

Why the heck do they have to do another credit check when you already have a phone with them?

Thats exactly what I was thinking! Why the hell would I not qualify for another one?! I've already been through one and I passed.

I just wrote a letter on their website that'll apparently go to the CEO, but I doubt it. I've made it my reason for waking up every morning to make sure nobody I know/meet on the street will ever give The Good Guys and business.

Hopefully you didn't damage anything by letting the temp get into the red.

Hopefully I didn't. As soon as I saw it shoot up though, i turned my heat on full blast and it went down just a bit, enough to get out of the red.

Did you call AT&T themselves and try to price match for the $50.00 dollar deal for the v60? The current online price is 50.00 dollars. It usually works if you're opening a new line and not upgrading your phone. I guess you really want the free accessories kit that came along with it or sign up for the two year contract and get the phone for free after rebate.

Yea, I've tried. The deal isn't 50 bucks, but free, if you sign up for a 39.99 or more a month plan. So activation is just 36 bucks. I've found plenty of places for 50, but it'll wind up being 86, and thats just a bit much for me. The accessories kit meant nothing to me, it was the 50 bucks. :) I can get it from Amazon for free but I'd have to wait for the rebate to come back, instead of 50 bucks from The Good Guys.

I can also get it free from local mom and pop stores when I go back to Southern California, but I wanted it before then to give it to her. The thing is, I wanted it now and The Good Guys was offering a good deal. After ranting to my entire buddy list though, I found someone who's close friend owns a cell phone store. I guess I'll be getting probably just as good a deal anyway.

credit check is standard procedure when activating/selling a cell phone, requardless of what you do/do not have at the time. If you already have a phone with them, it should take no time at all. condsidering they close at 9pm(im assuming you didnt know this before hand) and you got to the store at 8:40 and waited 25 mins...no wonder they couldnt sell you the phone. That sucks no one would help you for 10 mins, and you have to be there for the credit check, so not like you can start it, go away, then come back and poof its done. not saying good guys doesnt suck...just explaining a few things :)

No, I got there at 8, knowing they close at 9. I was told everything was dandy but it would take some time. I then came BACK at 8:40 and got the run-around.

About the credit check, I understood that. That was why I offered to pay the full price and everything. I would just get refunded the amount later when my credit went through. Also, AT&T has stopped requiring credit checks if you buy directly from them.

I filled out everything and was told that he was currently on the phone with the credit guy so everything is great. Just come back and pick up and pay for the phone. Then when I got back, I found out the jackass just handed my form to another employee and didn't tell them I needed a check.

Dude, that sucks. Esp the driving with the heat on part. For those who don't live in the Sacto region, it hit 103 degrees today.
