i personally think the NFL is too. Lets spend 5 minutes drawing circles on the teleprompter while a bunch of overpaid monkeys dance in the end zone.

Average career in the NFL is 2.7 years, helped by the fact that they go out there every day and take more hits than a punching bag.

Anyone who thinks baseball players (or any sport, for that matter) are overpaid needs to take a couple low level econ classes.

what are you talkin about. anyone who gets a 59$ million deal with a 19$ million bonus is over paid. Some dude in the NFL got that this year. WTF happened t people playin for the love of the sport

Sports are ment to be played, not watched 😉

Nah but some sports are...just to your liking. I dont know how people stand to watch golf, basketball, baseball or even soccer for that matter.

golf on TV is an aquired taste. I used to hate it more than anything...but now when a major tourney is on you can't keep my eyes off the tube.

Pro sports are an entertainment business, plain and simple.

The players entertain people, and in the process they generate revenue for the business.

They should be paid a portion (and a large one) of the income generated by their presence. Putting you or me on the field would generate precisely dick, hence we don't get paid $20 million a year to play baseball.

i realize that. but how is teh average workin man who makes somethin like 50K a year gonna sympathise with some one who makes 20 mill a year.

hes not hes gonna say FUSK OFF like he should

I dont think the players are overpaid, but they are certainly not underpaid neither... so I say they should stop whining and start playing as well...

They will lose lots of fans if they strike this time... and in the end it will hurt them more....

People are paid according to what they can generate for their employer, what the demand for the position is, the supply of workers, etc.

A $50K a year employee won't sympathize because they are jealous.

Would I like to make $20 million a year? Hell yeah!

But for now I'm worth $30K, and that's what I make.

Some people find those 1-6 second plays in football boring too

Basic Econ Lesson:

Man & his wife make 60k a year combined. On that they feed two kids, pay a mortgage, utility bills, taxes, food bills, car payments and medical insurance.

Basic joe schlub baseball player makes 500k(give or take 1.5 mil) a year. On that he pays for a mansion, sportscar(s), taxes, utilities, food, country club membership, etc.

Baseball players union strikes. one of the baseball players is quoted as saying: "Hey I gotta eat too ya know!"

How can you expect a public who averages 30-60k a year, to relate to a professional baseball player who complains about making the league average of 1 million a year? I also realize its not just the players complaining, its the owners. The same owners who started the higher bidding of player salaries in the first place. I say let them strike and let them all twist in the wind. I like baseball, but I swore in 1994 that if they went out on strike, I would never pay to see another professional baseball game. And I havent. And furthermore, I never will. I'd rather spend my money supporting local highschool or college teams, than spend it supporting high paid crybabies such as these.

Screw Baseball.
Long Live Hockey eh!

I don't give a rats ass about the players but the little guy is who I am worried about. The little guy as in the vendors, restaurants and anyone else who is dependent on baseball to make a living. It will be tough for them since they don't make a lot of money to begin with.

wnied you do realize hockey has alot of the same problems baseball has? Not only do most teams lose their FA's to a select few teams able to shell out the huge bucks, but the average ticket price for hockey is FAR higher than the average baseball ticket.

hahaha the irony of that statement: Hockey players make more on average than baseball players AND it costs more on average to go to a hockey game than any other sport.

Look, the only ones we need to blame is ourselves for supporting them (ie, going to the games, buying MLB merchandise, watching them on TV, etc). Don't do those things and everyone will make less and you'll be happier. But don't blame either the owners or the players if they can charge high dollar amounts and make a bazillion dollars a year because of your impulsive purchases.

Like someone else said, sports are meant to be played not watched. Get off your lazy arse and play baseball if you like it so much (<-generalization, not meant to be personal wnied).

You should never, ever, ever, ever rely on one source of revenue for your business.
