How did they rip off Jesus Jones? They obviously got the rights to that song.

I mean't..I should reword that...how about using his song? I could care less whether they got the rights or not (obviously they did) but the fact that now whenever I think of the song, I will think of Kmart during christmas time.
That song sucks anyway so why put so much effort into it?Originally posted by: Excelsior

Not quite. Parody and satire are forms of expression that are exempted from copyright laws. A K-Mart commercial would not be exempted.Originally posted by: Kenazo
I think if you change the words, it's not considered to be the same song anymore. That's how Wierd Al get's away w/ all his parodies, and not having to pay royalties on the songs.

My mistake, thanks for pointing that out.
No. What he is saying is: I like Jesus Jones (or at least that song), but I hate Kmart, so Kmart sucks for using that song.Jesus Jones is an alternative band from the 90s
K-Mart stole a song for their commercials, maybe

Kmart didn't steal anything. In fact, because the one-hit-wonder known as Jesus Jones can't make a living as a musical act, they have been peddling their only hit song to every used car dealer, appliance superstore, theme park, retail store, auto repair shop, bail bondsmen, convenience store, and lawn mower repair shop on the earth.
Hell, it may even have been remixed by Jesus Jones for Kmart. They may even have went to Kmart and begged them to use their song. Goodness knows they need the money.
I think you need to rename your thread "Fsck Jesus Jones for selling out to Kmart." 😉Originally posted by: Excelsior
