Received a letter in the mail today. They're apparently upgrading my account. Then I read the following tidbit:

"For your convenience, we have preordered a free Platinum Visa debit card for your account...which will be mailed out to you unless we hear from you by April 15, 2005..."

WTF!? Do companies just start handing out debit cards now? If I wanted a debit card attached to this or any other account, rest assured I would have explicity applied for one.

E*Trade is dangerously close to losing a priority account. This might be the motivation I need to finally get around to transferring my portfolio to another brokerage.

Okay.

what's the big deal? you don't have to use and it is NOT a credit card. They just trying to make it more convenient for you to have access to your money.

It's a debit card just like every other bank will give you automatically if you have a checking account. It has zero effect on your credit score.

What's more annoying to me is their lousy interest rates. Money market APY for balances under $50K is now half of INGdirect.com savings rate for $100 and up.
