I suck at bills, figuring numbers makes my head hurt, so I just pay it when it comes up and hardly ever look at it.

However, I had to call in just now because I remembered the amount was roughly doubled. Since I'd shredded the bill I had to call to get an explanation. I figured maybe I missed a month and hadn't realized it.

The girl said it was for my bill for Dec. 8th through Jan. 9th! A bill from the future Marty McFly!!! Is this a common practice I've just been ignorant of all this time?

Apparently Charter not only employs customer service reps and cable installers, they also staff a full time cache of phycics to see that I will continue to use their sh1tty service well into the future!

When I asked the girl if I cancel their service on Dec. 7th will they bill me for that future month of crappy service as well, she said yes.

I hung up before I said something that would make the girl cry. Why are there not multiple cable companies in the area to provide competition?

Like I said, maybe this is common practice and I've just never noticed it before. If so, pardon my rant. If not, well then......

FVCK YOU CHARTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Funny I'm using their service to type this eh?)

Is this even legal? I know there's a big class action law suit going on here against Charter, maybe this has something to do with it.

Charter has this city in it's pocket. Almost everything here is "Brought to you by Charter".

Well Charter, here's my bent over @ss, brought to you by ATOT!

it's probably legal, and yet i don't like paying for services that haven't been rendered.

Yeah both my cable and phone do this. But in general I have to agree with you "Fvck Charter"

Only TV choice in this town and unfortunately at $45/mo the cheapest broadband provider also.

My biggest complaint is my $100 cable bill for expanded cable (no digital, boxes, DVR...) and 3m internet. Granted I could go down to their lower internet package at 384k and save a whopping $5.

Guess what? You pay rent a month in advance too!

OMGWTFBBQ??!!??

You're ignorantly yelling at them for a standard practice.

And it's a good practice. You pay them upfront for a service, then they provide it... rather than them providing a service, and then you pay for it on the honor system.

You would do the same thing. Hell, even hookers do the same thing.

i don't pay the doctor for advance visits
i don't pay the grocery store for food before it's in my cart
i don't pay my credit card bill for future purchases

i can see what the OP is saying. cable is different from rent.

That's too bad, moshquerade, I upgraded our internet speed to $60/month, and 3mb download.

Actually I don't pay rent in advance. My first month was free, and I pay at the end of every month thereafter.

So Fvck off and die! :D

Then that is a rare exception. The vast majority of rental agreements have the rent a month in advance.

But wait, if your first month was free, and you paid at the end of your first month, you are still paying a month in advance.

Don't believe me? If you moved out at the end of a month, you would not owe your landlord rent.

Like I said before, I just now caught on to this, and I think it's ridiculous.

 Exactly how is it ridiculous? You pre-pay for your service, it lowers the providers collection costs (since if you don't pay, they can shut off your service before you start incurring onpaid usage). If you cancel your service in the middle of the month, they refund you a prorated amount based on when you cancelled.

Here is a hint, it's called a subscription. Your not complaining that you paid for your magazine subscriptions in advance. Based on your post I'm guessing your age and your not complaining about paying for your semester at school in advance. You pay for your car registration in advnance. (need more examples?)

In your rant is stupid, ignorant, not to mention just plain wrong ;)

Smiley or not, It wouldn't be a good idea to post that again.

Oops, my bad. With the current moderation in OT, thought he'd wind up nailed for it. I guess I don't follow enough of the back stories 'round here ;)
