fuzzy laptop resolutions - any way to make stuff run windowed or w/ black borders?

when gaming on my laptop, i'd much rather see the actual pixel for pixel resolution instead of the interpolated, fuzzy image. Is there any way to make games run in windowed mode or with black borders around it? my lcd resolution is 1400x1050, and I don't know of ANY games that support this res.
