I think it was when I messed with the buffer in the registry. It said in the latest MaxPC magazine how to increase the bufferm, but I have a feeling that it didnt work very well since when I tried to burn something the buffer meter fell FAST! now I cant get it back because it has been automatically been converted to binary(The keys in regedit) and I dont know the originals! They are in Local Machine\System\currentcontrolset\Control\FileSystem\CDFS

There should be 3 values, cachesize, prefetch and prefetchtail, I'd apprectiate if someone could give me those #'s! Thanks!

I'm using windows me and I'm not sure if there are the originals, but here they are anyway.....

cachesize 27 05 00 00
prefetch a0 03 00 00
prefetch tail 80 00 00 00

thanks, I tried it, but sitll doesnt seem to work, I think its something I did to the CD-rom cache, I just burnt something at 8x from my hdd and it worked fine, just when I try disk to disk it only goes 2x! 🙁 Anyone know of any fixes, the only things I've done to the registry since I reinstalled was: shortened end task timeout, speedup start menu, enlarge cd-rom cache...

It would help to know what version of Windows you installed.

In W2k, you need the scsi imulator files installed, which you must do at the first startup pause. (a very brief pause) F6 option.
Some may automatically do this, my version does not.
I could not burn without that option, even though you will not install anything else when prompted, Window 2k installs scsi imulators.

Are you reading from a CD and burning directly to a burner? If you are, you're a moron.

Always image a cd to the hard drive first.

I object to this! He should be able to do a CD to CD copy if you wants to, the system is designed to do this, so why is he (or anyone else for that matter) a moron for doing this?

LOL, thanks for the tip...

😉

i've done that before...software supports it, CD to CD burn...not a problem man....I even did it without burn proof and shucks.
but I had a 4X burner then and you had to burn at 2X if going from cD to CD...so imaging it to hard drive and burning it to CD would go at 4X so it would takethe exact same time, whatever you felt most safe with (obviously imaging is probably bset there).

now I have a plextor 24X

HAR HAR!!!
