As what was most certainly on the minds of Xbox Live subscribers for the last year, Microsoft has announced the pricing of Xbox Live subscription renewals and a new price point for Starter Kits. Starting in Fall 2003, gamers already subscribed to Xbox Live can renew their subscriptions for $49.95 for one year or $5.95 per month. Starter Kits will sell for $69.95 ($49.95 + $20 for the headset, it was given away for free previously with the kit).

fair value, cost of 1 game. that with news of new features makes it nice. only thing lacking is somehow letting more than 1 person play live at same time, with a single xbox

So lets see... DSL (35 bucks) + Dark Ages of Camelot (13 bucks) + XBOX Live (6 bucks) = NOTHANKSKBAI

I'll stick with my DSL 😀

Decent pricing. I don't own an X-Box, but I remember a thread that asked a month or so ago who was still playing Live, and the 'yes' responses were pretty small. It should be interesting to see who will pay for this in the future.

exactly. multiplayer live! has always been available. you can play any sports game and have 3 of your friends play alongside you as guests. good times when you can get a 4 on 4 going over live!

err, i mis-wrote. i meant having multiple people communicate with live. you can't do that without a splitter or something. each person can't use their own headset

I don't play the one XBox Live connection I have now. Bought 2 XBoxes instead and play games with friends over my lan.

When does this go into effect? I'd like to pick up the $49 starter kit before then.

Yeah, me too. I have Unreal Championship and I've been thinking about picking up Ghost Recon. Gotta have Halo2 when it comes out! 🙂

I'm guessing in the fall. I'm going to pick up a copy just in case there's ever a game that I'd really like to play on live. Worse case, I activate it, get bored, and let the account die, only to go monthly later

You know, an enterprising individual could pick up a bunch of copies of Live now at $49, then ebay them for a $10-15 profit when the price hike occurs. Too bad I don't have a few hundred dollars I can spare at the moment. Even with a $10 profit, thats a 20% return 😀

(and I thought my econ class was worthless 😉)
