Future Socket 478 Processors?

I'm just curious if any of you know Intel's vision for s478 cpu's. Is it done? I currently have an Abit IC7 (2.8c) but won't be looking to upgrade my mobo/cpu for at least 6 to 12 months. Is everything planned for s478 already out or announced?

Will there be a 4+Ghz s478 cpu? Higher? Or will there just be some form of large cache Prescott/Extreme Edition around 3.6+?

To sum up... any idea what the fastest/best CPU available for s478 is going to be?

I think intel has said somewhere that they will be doing a refresh of the socket 478 p4 or something. Not sure, but I think that's what I read.

No, it's not done.

This is a very odd move IMO. Usually Intel just drops the older socket once they've introduced a new one. But then again, as far as the PC market is concerned, the main difference between 775 and 478 is new-gen connectivity vs. legacy (respectively). So from that standpoint, I can see where offering the same chip lineup for each socket makes sense.

Sounds good to me. This would be a cheap upgrade path for me with a 2.6@3.2. It would be very nice to get a 3.6 or 3.8 Prescott and overclock it to 4.2ghz for extra $200US in 6-8 months instead of spending more $$$ on an AMD64 mobo.

Yeah I was sorta thinking the same thing. As much as the AMD world has been looking up lately (I mostly game)... a nice oc'd Prescott around 4Ghz would probably do me nicely instead of scrapping this IC7.
