If you work in a technology field and are scared of outsourcing, try getting a job with the government or a defense contractor. Hell will probably freeze over before the US outsources those jobs.
I don't think that means what you think it means, but it was a good suggestion for most of this forum.Originally posted by: Red Dawn

We'll see about that. This assumes that some drastic change is actually going to happen. And even if it does, it doesn't guarantee that wages will be slashed. They might be restructured. But with the problems we already have with fulfilling many health care positions, slashing the salaries across the board would be asinine.Originally posted by: BoberFett
Health care? Wages are going to go down. A lot.
Just think about for a minute.
Everyone bitches about how health care costs too much in this country. At the same time they want to expand it to include everyone. So we're going to increase the demand and decrease the price. Do you really think only the health insurance industry will be affected? Salaries are going to have to be slashed across the board in health care.
Look into health care tourism. even health care isn't immune to globalization.Originally posted by: Skoorb
Health care may be the best one. Demand should continue to go up and the hands-on stuff cannot possibly be outsourced.

I don't know about that, I work for one of the big phone companies in the noc, and i don't think the government would allow them to move that out of the country. not secure enough. plus there will be a need for a warm body in the central offices to maintain the equipment.Originally posted by: SpunkyJones
I work in telecom, on top of this being an unstable field in general, all my work can be done remotely, like say from India. Health Care seems to be fairly future proof.

I don't think you can-or should-plan a lifetime career anymore. Go for a ten year horizon and constantly reevaluate your possibilities.
Good point. The list of "future proof" careers probably changes every several years anyway. The changes may not be drastic, but don't assume that any position will be around forever in its current form.Originally posted by: Thump553

Do you really think that job is future proof? They are one of the prime candidates for outsourcing.Originally posted by: JohnCU

Are you referring to my earlier comment that a government job in technology should be immune to outsourcing?Originally posted by: ericlp

<----- Out Sourced!
Look up outsourcing and A76. I suppose other jobs and branches will see this as a way to save money or hide money and this is probably the tip of the ice burg.
Shit Happens.
