Future pricing for LCD monitors?

I'm really aiming to get an 18" LCD screen, but with the current prices (even though Radius has finally introduced competitve pricing), is still a lot more than I want to spend, considering a new 19" with 18" viewable can be had for a 1/3 of the price. Does anyone know of future plans to cut costs on LCD panels, within the next year or so?

They will come down gradually as demand increases.

I would guess it will be 3-4 years before they're coming within "shooting distance" of CRT prices tho.

It's all about the volume and ease of manufacturing. The techniques are much better but they are still expensive to make so I don't see any "big drop" in the next few months unless someone really makes a breakthrough in the manufacturing process (doubtful)

I saw on The Screen Savers that at current prices manufacturer's are probably losing money. They ramped up production back when prices were sky high (from high demand) and as those factories came on line as the PC market started to tank. So who knows if LCD's will go down much more before the plants shut down. FYI, LCD's make up 12% of monitor sales but 1/3 of total monitor revenue so people are buying them.

Probably because laptops are so popular.
