Future plans for TA DCers (formerly: How many for SETI when ECCp-109 is over?)

I was just wondering how much CPU power we'd potentially have once ECCP ends, seeing as how we have a LOT of cpu power tied up in ECCP right now, if all that was transferred to SETI we should be able to really bump production. I myself am running ECCP on all my machines, but when it ends i will have all these machines cracking for SETI once again.

Here's what's gonna be SETIzed once ECCP is over:
XP @ 1650Mhz
Tbird @ 900Mhz
P3 @ 500Mhz
P2 @ 300Mhz

It's anyone's guess. I'm sure some people will switch to SETI@Home but I'm sure plenty will choose another DC project. It's all up the the individual members.

Glad to hear you'll be switching to SETI though. We may need the help to catch BBR if they manage to pass us. :(

Well according to this page, TA has 2774 Gigaherz deployed as follows:
SETI 1798
RC5 721
F@H2 101
ECC 154

So ECCp would be less than a 10% bump even if everyone went to SETI. More than likely, some machines would be retired as too old. And GASP, since everyone does not like SETI, many would go to otner projects instead.

By the way, there is only a 56% chance that ECCp-109 will complete this year.

Well, a friend of mine said he would move his RC5 cracking machines over to SETI@Home when RC5 gets done. Really going to be torqued if they turned out to have had people continue cracking after the key was found. :disgust:

I'm currently crunching RC5, but have a remote machine that helps out the ECCp TeAm when it's on (unfortunately that's not very much). After RC5 and ECCp are over, I'll probably go back to Folding@Home, or maybe see about that Distributed Folding stuff. Not that I'm against SETI, as I feel that it's got some worthy goals (though I don't think the part about finding aliens is worthwhile, SETI does much more than just that!).

Just a little update for you guys... i see the "how many for SETI" thing wasnt a big hit... so now, just inquiring as to your plans when your current project runs out, or you get bored of your current one.

I'll probably start doing Folding@home or something else.

I used to do Seti, but my main machine was only pushing out 1-2wu a day so i decided to switch to something else. If F@H or whatever doesnt work out then maybe i'll return to seti.

Posty's farm will do RC5 if it's still around after ECCp. If not, then it's more clouded.. Probably OGR or one of the folding projects, depending on the hardware demands.
