Future AMD CPU's: Will current chipsets be able to run them?

Just wondering if anyone has kept up to date on this in regards to say an AM3 790GX, and/or, the newer 890GX AM3 boards being able to run any of AMD's next gen CPU's?

I'm not talking about the current X6 ones, as those are supported...more like the stuff that will be hitting 1Q/1H of next year.

P.S. If someone wishes to contrast that to what Intel support of current platform with same timeframe CPU's, that would be cool also.

No one knows 100%, but it seems there's lots of Confidence that AM3, especially 89x Chipsets, will work. Some kind of Power Requirement or some other factor could be needed that causes some to Fail to make the grade though.

It also depends which future AMD CPU's you're talking about.

There seems to be a general consensus that the 8xx chipsets should be able to support Bulldozer, but you're probably out of luck for Llano since it'll need extra pins for video output.

And I just bought a combo am3 785 and x4 630 since rumors were am3 would support bulldozer...has there been any talk about the 710/750 chipsets supporting BD?

On the server side existing chipsets will support bulldozer; it will be a drop in replacement.
I can't speak to the client side.

I thought socket F was dead. C32 is supposed to be its replacement.

OK, so that leads me to believe:

AMD (Bulldozer)
Servers - G34 and C32
Desktops - AM3 (a question mark) and AM3+

Intel (Sandy Bridge)
Servers - LGA1366 (a question mark) and LGA2011
Desktops - LGA1156 (a question mark) and LGA1155

The prediction being above, I wouldn't invest now basking future compatibility from either side. Get what's best for you now and enjoy it. Or wait if you feel you don't need to upgrade. If something comes along and fits in your existing system, consider it a bonus.
