Saw this over on slashdot.

Hopefully fox doesn't screw it up like before.
Watching Billy West in the video is kinda creepy, he is truly talented !

Futurama may be set for a second coming to network television.

Actor Billy West, the voice of Fry, Farnsworth, Zoidberg, Brannigan and more told the audience at the Anime Supercon in Florida recently that due to the strong sales of the Futurama DVD?s, Fox is considering a 6th season for a show they once canned due to poor ratings.

If you've had the unfortunate experience of watching the Futurama movies, you know the series is already doomed.

I remember when I was like 14 and futurama was about the come out, I was running one of the bigger fan sites. I interviewed the voice of bender and got him to send me some angry emails, it was my fault but i forget exactly how i provoked him.

not to disparage the guy I know I was at fault but still kind of amusing.. i wish i kept the emails

Fox: *airs family guy* *cancels family guy* *airs it again* *cancels it once more*
Cartoon Network: *airs family guy for longer than fox*
Fox: *wants the table scraps*

Fuck Fox and how they get rid of the good shows too early because of things like politics.

Yay, now they can air it right after football again. It's no wonder it got poor ratings, as it was quite often, "Now joining Futurama, already in progress!" in time to watch the last two minutes, thanks to games constantly running over.

*****HUGE SPOILERS****

Each movie has relied on an increasingly ridiculous and improbable plot device. Only the first movie feels like they invested any energy into it, the second and third were just cheap tricks to churn out something to the public. In fact, I'd say that the first movie was actually pretty good. I liked the plot device and I liked how scences kept repeating themselves with increasing complexity. They went out of their way to explain a lot of tings, but, in general, the movie was a good effort considering the hiatus they'd been on. I didn't like that Nibbler revealed he can speak to everyone, but that's just person preference.

The second movie should have built on that momentum, but it didn't. It introduced an even weirder plot device. The jokes were forced, the plot was stupid, and the part with the robots at the end felt like a cheap rip-off of previous episodes.

The third movie was such an abomination that it might rival Star Wars Ep 1. It was a slap in the face to the clever writing, plot twists that characterized the regular show.

First of all, Bender DOES have an imagination throughout the ENTIRE FUCKING SHOW. You can't just change one thing about a character to introduce a lame parody of LOTR. His imaginative abilities are exemplified time and again ("I'll build my own theme park! With hookers! And blackjack! ... Forget the theme park!"). In fact, Bender's ability to imagine things is exactly what makes him fucking funny in the first place. When they started the Dungeons and Dragons scene and Bender couldn't imagine anything, I almost turned off the fuckign movie right there. It makes no sense! It's like saying that Jerry Seinfeld is suddenly unfunny in Seinfeld or that Bart is suddenly a model student.

Second, the show also decides that all Nibblonians have been enslaved by Mom's evil corporation to make Dark Matter because they are the only source of it in the universe. ... Okay. If that's true then they've been enslaved since the show began, which means they couldn't be flying around eating the evil brains or doing any of the other shit they do.

Third, with the exception of one or two lines, the jokes just weren't that funny or clever.

Yeah, people will probably say that #1 and #2 are stupid criticisms, but what made Futurama so great was that all the small things tended to add up. There weren't huge gaping plot holes and they had a great ability to carry on gag jokes. I feel like the writers threw all that away in the second and third movies and just chose to make something completely new (and horrible).

I am sort of immune to this now - there has been so much talk about Futurama coming back I just can't concern myself with it anymore.

I thought the movies sucked, but the TV series was some of the funniest stuff I've ever watched. I like the idea of them coming back to TV, maybe they can be funny again if they only have to carry a plot for 22 minutes instead of 90 minutes.

Come on people this won't happen. There's Family Guy and American Dad... soon The Cleveland show.. and of course The Simpsons. No more King of the Hill but in my opinion they need something non-animated like Malcolm in the Middle on Sunday night again.

Exactly. Futurama is needed to edge out the SUCK in FOX's schedule.

It would probably be better if they didn't bring it back. Although I'm of the opinion that it's the length of the movies that killed them as opposed to any complete degeneration in writing ability (Futurama is only meant to be consumed in 22 minute chunks), I still can't really get behind the series after having seen the movies.

Having just watched the fourth and final movie, I, sadly, must agree.
