Nearly 10 years after it signed off, Futurama has been revived for a 20-episode run on Hulu, the third platform for the animated comedy from creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen.

The series that aired its first five seasons on Fox before being revived for three more at Comedy Central will return to production this month for a 2023 premiere. Following an extended deal-making period, original stars Billy West (Fry) and Katey Sagal (Leela) along with ensemble players who voiced multiple characters Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr and David Herman will all return. John DiMaggio, who provided the voice behind the wise-cracking robot with the “shiny metal ass” Bender, is finalizing a deal to return as well though a deal has not yet closed.

I for one welcome our lord nibbler!

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!
I was just thinking about Futurama this afternoon.

It had occurred to me that fuckin show is now 23 years old and I was like "FUCK ME THAT SHOW IS TWENTY THREE YEARS OLD!"

So yeah, coincidences abound.

I can't say I ever truly liked the show but that's mainly because, even if you accept that it's supposed to be silly and meandering, there were so many situations where I had a hard time letting go of any kind of continuity or sense of reality. I did binge a bunch of episodes recently though and it was OK, with a smattering of LOL gags but I can't say I was all that engaged.

You go GEE-MAW. Let those titties roam wild and free. I keep imagining unlikely situations where the billowing skin windsocks get snagged by a trout fisherman or even more disturbing (although in some quarters the correct modifier might be "enticing"), that somehow she ended up in the middle of a forest fire with those greased up mammaries and 3 firefighters die trying to put her out.

Yeah not sure how this will be received without Bender. That said—late seasons of Futurama are still way better than late seasons of the Simpsons. In fact, I’d argue that Futurama is Groening’s most iconic work.

This is how I feel. Sorry, just stop already.

The rebooted one, while having some moments, was just off. The show went out on a solid high note even if they didn't get to properly tell the story they wanted to during its original run, we really didn't need the second one. I really can't imagine they have much better ideas, and we'll probably end up with wonky voice acting (anyone heard Marge lately?).

Honestly, unless they're looking to retcon the series and just tell the main story they originally wanted to in a more straightforward manner with modern animation, I feel like this is gonna add more noise and lessen Futurama's legacy further.

‘Futurama’: John DiMaggio Boards Hulu Revival, Completing Cast’s Return

(More) good news, everyone! The cast of Futurama is whole again.

John DiMaggio, who voices Bender (and other chraracters) on the long-running and now-revived animated series, will join the rest of the show’s core cast for new episodes on Hulu. When the streamer announced the revival on Feb. 9, DiMaggio had not yet closed a deal to return, but it’s done now. He joins fellow regulars Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr and David Herman.
