Fuses...

I have brought a kettle (from mainland europe) back with me to my dorm rooms (in england).

In england, everything is fused: even the bloody plug convertors. How do I figure out what kind of fuse I need for my kettle?

Meh, I guess nobody knows.

I looked at the face of the plug, and it say 16A, is that right for something like a kettle?

No its rated for 16A, the fuse should be much less

13A fuse.

I'm guessing it's kind of like a crock-pot...

Seriously? It's the thing you boil water in! I can't believe you don't have that word... what do you call it?

Why 13A? Is that the standard kind of amps a kettle can top out at?

It shouldn't go that high, but a fuse should be higher than the maximum amps at normal operation conditions. Don't stress about this, you can just short the thing with a paper clip if you want, it doesn't matter.

16 amps, bloody hell. What voltage do you guys use in your wiring. Standard house wiring in the US is only rated (15amps X 120v) 1800 watts.

And that's prob why most are 13A, max they can really use on a circuit before it trips.

they use 220 volts, which actually means the current for the same device should be lower

maybe it really IS a witches caldron/kettle, 16 amps at 220 volts is a lot of power

240V, most fuses are 13A.
