Fury with Freesync or GTX 1080 without?

Not sure which one I should go for I want to wait until Vega but have no GPU now as mine died.

I personally went with a Sapphire Fury Nitro which I paid ~$340ish after tax. However, it has been as cheap as $274.99 after coupon ($299.99-25) on 7/19 from Newegg.

The CUs on mine were hardware locked so no 4096 shaders for me, though that is YMMV. I am still quite pleased with the card as I can undervolt -60mV at 1050/545 and get Fury X performance with approximately 980 Ti power consumption.

Personally if you need the performance 1080 wins no contest, but if you don't want to spend that much with the new Titan X and 1080 Ti on the horizon then looking for clearance deals on Fury/X and 980 Ti may get you what you want at a very reasonable price point

Depends on the games you play, but if you're getting the Fury/Nano/X at 300/350/400$ or below that level, then I'd say grab'em before they run out of stock.

If you can find another Fury on sale for $300-$350 then that makes sense. On 144Hz display Freesync is still important, but perhaps not quite a necessity, so paying more for a Fury over a 1070 doesn't quite make sense since it's only faster in Doom.

If your 290 died, it might still be under warranty, check that first. You'll probably get a 390(x) as replacement which is a slight upgrade in itself and will probably be able to hold you over til Vega, or at least give you money by selling it.
