Furcal on an UNASSISTED Triple play. DO you guys realize how RARE that is??

VERY VERY rare. one of sports rarest achievements.

there have been more perfect games than unassisted triple plays.

it just happened btw.

leaping catch at short, run to second touch the base. and tag the runner from first as everyone was running on the play.

MIKE

sorry, he got about 3 ft in the air to make a catch that should have dropped in over him, stepped on 2nd to get the man that was on 2nd out and then ran down the man trying to get back to first and tagged him out.

11th regular season unassisted triple play in the history of baseball and the 1st in atlanta braves history.

Man, I'm watching ESPN now, and they're not talking about it - I wanna see a replay!!

i can tell you, if they hadn't sent the runners, he probably would have STILL got at least an unassisted double and mb even the triple as fast as he runs, but the fact that they sent the runner made it easy for him.

my point is, it was a pretty well place ball, 8/10 that ball probably drops for a bloop single.

Here is how Yahoo wrote it up.........

THE ATLANTA BRAVES TURNED AN UNASSISTED TRIPLE PLAY IN THE BOTTOM OF THE FIFTH INNING. WOODY WILLIAMS LINED OUT TO SHORTSTOP RAFAEL FURCAL. FURCAL THEN DOUBLED OFF MIKE MATHENY AT SECOND BASE AND TAGGED OUT ORLANDO PALMEIRO FOR THE THIRD OUT. IT IS THE 12TH UNASSISTED TRIPLE PLAY IN MAJOR LEAGUE HISTORY. THE LAST ONE WAS TURNED BY OAKLAND'S RANDY VELARDE ON MAY 29, 2000 AGAINST THE NEW YORK YANKEES. IT IS THE FIRST UNASSISTED TRIPLE PLAY IN ATLANTA BRAVES HISTORY.

it was really something. i dislike the braves intensely, but since they are playing st. louis i want them to win. i'm a long suffering cubs fan, so the braves can whoop up on the nl central all the time for all i care, except of course when they play the cubs. haha

anyone that claims to be a baseball fan, no matter how much you hate the team involved, has to appreciate what happened there.

of course i appreciate it. its amazing.

I understand it's rare and all, but honestly the only impressive thing about that play was his vertical to make that grab.

Quick jog to second and the other guy was right there to tag.

Agreed, the fact that they had the hit and run on made the play seem less impressive, but on that catch even if the hit and run hadn't been on, he probably still would have gotten at least two and a more difficult 3, he would've had to run farther.
