Generally 15%, unless the service was really outstanding. I've left places with terrible service without tipping before.

twice of tax is what I tip unless the person goes above and beyond the call of duty. Most servers are pretty asshatish about their work to begin with.

If you don't like it, suck it! Suck it loooong and suck it hard.

I pretty much raised VeggieFrog on tips (bartending), so I know the importance of it all.

When I go out..to me it all depends on attitude...

good service, crap attitude = 15%
crap service, great attitude = 20%
great service, great attitude = 25% or more.
crap service, crap attitude = anything between nothing and $3.00 depending on how bad the attitude is.

Grat is just that... a little extra above and beyond. I am paying for what I am ordering in full, so any tip is a gift. If it is not earned, it is not given. I bust my azz for my money, and I will not just give it away to ppl who give me crap service and have a crap attitude.

That site is a riot. "A record of who owes us money. We consider any tip under 20% to be monies owed." WTF do these asshats think they are?

I'm a very good tipper, but I may change my ways after reading that garbage...

A friend of mine who owned a bar had this letter framed and posted on the wall. It is a pretty long read... but one of the funniest things I have ever seen... it was all done tongue in cheek...

There are swear words in it... so if it is innappropriate... mods, please let me know and I will delete it immediately.

It is titled Bartenders are GOD!

I hate when I get a dirty look for tipping $1 for a $5 meal at a diner. What, do you expect a 50% tip for bringing me a burger? Good job!

No doubt. Whine a little bit more that you didn't make $100 in a night. Sounds like a bunch of spoiled brats to me.

I really don't understand tipping 20%. For instance, the gf and I went out last night and our bill for the meal was $50.

Service was so-so, a little slow, but the guy was practically the only person working. However, I think we left $8 or so. We were there about an hour and a half, the guy had 7-8 other tables, so assuming everyone left similar tips... seems to me like the guy was making about $35-40 an hour.

Now how many other jobs pay you $40 an hour with no education, no special training, and no actual responsibility? I don't make that and I went to college for 6 years, work 50 hours a week and then come home to finish what's left, have to worry about deadlines half a year out, and if I got fired could take months to find another job...

A dollar a ROUND? Apparantly I've been tipping too much...

That website is kind of obnoxious... if they want to make more money they should get a better job. If they want to be waiters, then they have to deal with bad tippers. It's PART OF THE JOB.

Waiters make more than a fresh med school graduate, and they don't work nearly as much, nor as hard, and they don't have the assload of debt. They should stop bitching.

Good service deserves a good tip. The best service is the service you don't even notice because you want for nothing.

Bad service combined with a bad attitude deserves a stiff. Ruin my meal and I'll ruin your payday. 'nuff said.

Maybe it's because waiters recognize you as an asshat and a scumbag.
