Change their AIM buddy Icon to something like a penis, that normally upsets them when they find out 6 months later.

Oh yeah and

Ctrl+Alt+Up ; normal landscape screen orientation
Ctrl+Alt+Left ; 90 degree screen orientation
Ctrl+Alt+Down ; 180 degree screen orientation
Ctrl+Alt+Right ; 270 degree screen orientation

Usually messes with their heads

Print screen the deskop. Save it to a jpg file.

Right click on desktop, don't show icons.

Auto hide toolbar, put it on top.

Set the background to your print screened jpg file.

If your friend is a "hunt-n-peck" typer then the old trick of switching a few keys around on the keyboard is fun

A better one is to take a screenshot of their desktop the way it is and remove all the icons and put the image as the background image it will take them hours to figure out that they are clicking on nothing.

or what about installing VNC on their computer and then you can take control of his mouse remotely while he's trying to do something

Change the default recycling bin icon to the "full" icon, this will only work if they have the obsessive desire to empty the recycling bin.

I put one of those "Blue screen of death" screen savers on a co-workers PC before when he wasn't there he came back and though his system crashed :p

I've sent e-mail and IM's from work friends PC's to other work friends just to fvck around with them.

Can't think of much else but I know I've done plenty more.

You can always replace sounds - that works well too. We usually do it for birthdays (Weird Al's "happy birthday" is always a hit) but you can do it with any wav, etc.

Find the location for the startup sound on the mark's pc, and replace it. Just rename your sound, and drop it into the folder, and "yes" to replace the file already there.

Warcraft has some good ones, like the fart noises from the two-headed ogre in WCII....

Oh, and make sure you crank the volume, so that the cube mates all hear the interesting noises....

An OLD trick is to replace the Win XP splash screen with something else...I don't remember exactly which files to replace, but Google should lead you in the right direction.

I assume they are using Windows XP Pro in an office setting?

Turn on Remote Desktop and have at it.

I think that it locks the PC if you're already logged in to it (example: if I RDP into my PC in the other office, it locks it). If someone else is logged in, then I think it logs them out and locks it.

I did the background desktop trick on a friend and it was hilarious :p she thought she got a virus and started complaining and asking everyone if they knew anything about some weird desktop virus that was going around.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone!!!

I did this on a student computer at an ArcGIS (mapping software) class. Take a screen shot of their favorite application. Close it. Make that screenshot the background.

Win.
