OK, my cousin is an executive at a media company and works with some pretty big wigs in Hollywood. he's pretty wealthy.

I was talking to him the other day and asked him about the blackouts and stuff, and he told me that it's like everything else, he lives in a rich neighborhood and they haven't had any blackouts and don't have to worry about them.

I'm fine with this, esp since these people are probably paying a ton in property taxes and stuff, but isn't it kinda interesting that the media hasn't played up this aspect at all?

Aaron, no one in the LA area or LA county has had black outs. They are with the DWP and have a different set up then the rest of CA. Your friend has been less than forthcoming in his explaination.

DWP has more then enough power and in fact sells it's excess to other local companies. So anyone within the DWP area in LA is fine.

BTW, My power bill went down 30% last month. We changed all light bulbs to fluorescent and have a smaller fridge.

Yep. They generate their own power so they don't have to worry about the damn blackouts. Northern California should start trading them water for energy since Norther California provides them with all their water.

Certian cities in so.cal have their own power. Cities like Los Angeles gets its power from DWP, whereas cities like beverly hills gets it from socal edison and is prone to blackouts.

Santa monica too is under edison. Glendale, burbank and pasadena have their own powerplants.

So it really depends where the person stays.. in so.cal and if the city they live in has its own power plant or depends on the public utilities.

socal doesnt really get any blackouts. Even the SCE areas. I live in the south bay in socal, and we've never had a single blackout. Up at school i've been told that electricity for out apartment will only cost $30 or so for 3 guys. maybe $40 - 45 at most. thank god for the dwp. my friend at uci, they pay like $180 a month for 4 guys, but they are electricity wasteres, with their 8 computers running 24/7
