Funny story about my roomates computer.

My roommate?s computer was randomly rebooting for a few weeks from overheating and Gateway told him it was his power supply fan. So last night he got his new power supply. I helped him put it in and clean the dust out of his comp and went back into my room. Later he comes knocking on my door and says his computer messed up so I went into his room to help him and it smelled like melted rubber. I then opened his case up and his heat sink was hot, even the fan burned my finger when I touched it. Anyway I started it up and saw the fan wasn't running and with the heat, I determined that the cpu was probably shot. I then called Gateway for him and got this extremely stupid Indian guy. I told him all the stuff and he had me do the most ridicules stuff, including trying to put the p1 power supply plug in the motherboard spot backwards (which I tried to explain that it wouldn't go but he was to stupid to understand). So after an hour or so he put me through to the motherboard department and they are sending a new mobo, ram and cpu.

And what does the tech guy being Indian have anything to do with it??? Why just say some stupid tech guy??

EDIT: It was nice of you to handle the problem with Gateway for him. At my old job it was nice because all I had to do was fax a form requesting warranty parts so I never had to deal with tech support people.

Well he was stupid plus he was hard to understand. If I would have just said tech guy, it wouldn't have been inherently understood that he was hard to understand.

Good thing that those P1 cables are designed not go in backward, otherwise you'd have more problems than just a fried proc. :D

So it would become inherently understood that he was stupid and hard to understand when you mentioned he was an Indian tech guy? I don't doubt for a minute that he could've been stupid and hard to understand, but I think you mentioned Indian because you're upset just like a few others here that call centers are being moved to India. I totally understand that CCs in India probably provide very poor service, but I hate it that you and a few others are making blanket statements about Indians. Stupid or not, that tech guy is just trying to make a living. If you have a problem with poor service, blame Gateway.

EDIT: Not to mention, he probably found you as difficult to understand :disgust:

He is not stupid because he is Indian, he is stupid because he is stupid. I just pointed out he is Indian because it tells people that he was also hard to understand.

I hate it when they put people who can hardly speak english on tech support lines. Then they always make sure that they are really quiet and after you ask them to repeat something 5 times, they get upset and act like it's YOUR FAULT!!!

I had a gawd awful noise coming from mine the other day too. Sounded like a wire was rubbing on a fan. I opened it up and it all looked good so I booted it while it was open to see exactly what was going on. Well, I have the removable hard drive bays, and it turns out one of the fans seized up. It was very hot and making a hell of a noise.

So I removed those drive bays and tossed them. No more noise. That thing could have burned my place down though, it was scorching and I leave my comp on 24/7.
