I wasn't sure whether this post should be in the Cases section or the Motherboard section, but given the standoffs came with the case, I'm posting here.
I bought a Cooler Master Storm Scout case and it came with 2 standoffs already screwed in place. They were holding up the sheet of paper that showed the locations for where the other standoffs need to be screwed in. I noticed that the standoffs where not flat/flush where the motherboard is supposed to rest. I compared these 2 pre-installed standoffs to the other ones that came with the case, and they definitely were different.
I wasn't sure whether I was supposed to use these 2 standoffs. I was thinking that maybe they were slightly tapered in so as to fit the holes in the motherboard. Consequently, this could help keep the motherboard in place as I installed the screws. In the end, however, I decided to replace the standoffs with the standard ones.
Has anyone seen these non-standard standoffs before? Should I have used them? I'm assuming that using the standard ones will not be a problem.
Separately, my motherboard (ASRock H55M Pro) had one less hole than what the case had for standoff placement. Rather than leave the standoff rubbing against the back of the motherboard, I removed the standoff. Will that be a problem? I figured the motherboard has plenty of support from all the other standoffs.
