Funny racing story - he was racing, I wasn't

I was coming down a long stretch of road that's in the next city from me, a lot of people go there to race since there's no place cops can really sneak up on you from. I happened to be heading to the movies at the time - not out for a race. My friend sees this 91-92 Accord with Type-R decals ALL OVER IT. I laugh. It wasn't even in good shape, no rims/kit as well. I pull up next to it at around 50MPH, my friend yells out the window "Nice Type R!!" and gives him a thumbs up. I downshift and take off - and head towards the movies, he was nothing more than a spec in my rearview. This kid feels like he has something to prove, so once I reach the rotary at the end of the road, he comes screaming up from behind me, and to my side - almost smashing into a car that's already in the rotary. Smart. He pulls into the lane next to me after I got off the rotary, while I was changing lanes - so I cut in front of him and kept him behind me. We were in traffic for a few mins while we waited for the light to change, and we came up to another rotary - his friend waves for me to follow him, but I wasn't about to amuse his offer. I take the 2nd exit off of that rotary while he keeps going - almost crashing into another car!!!. Did this kid really have to prove his POS - did I piss him off that badly??? I hope so :D

Its amazing how many MA drivers cant navigate a rotary, especially when racing their POS. Ive had many a near death experience.

Tell me about it - there's a rotary at the end of my street that's always got traffic after 1:00pm. You wouldn't believe how many morons either:

a. Stop in the middle of the rotary to let you in (doh!)

b. Stay on the outer edge of the rotary and NOT EXIT!!! This causes a big problem when the people on the inside need to get out.

or c. Idiots who are supposed to yield, and completely ignore the signs, again - causes big problems when you have to slam on your brakes in the middle of the rotary to prevent a sideswipe :|

Maybe you weren't exactly racing, but you were "egging him on", so to speak. You did start something with him.

You said that you were going 50 when you downshifted and took off. What was the maximum speed that you hit?
What is the speed limit in this area?

Think about how you and your friend acted for a while. These are just some of the good reasons that cause all kids to have the repuatation of being bad drivers.

PG - I was definitly poking fun at him. That was the point - but my main thing is: don't get so hot-headed over something like that to the point where you almost cause an accident! And the speed limit was 50 I believe, I probably hit 60-65 for a short period - I normally do around 55-60 on this road. I'm not saying I didn't do anything - just wanted to poke fun at his car and leave it at that :)

As you get older you'll learn not to mess with people.
Of course the other guy should not have acted the way he did, but you never know how people will react.
What if the guy had a gun and was in a really bad mood to start with? You never know, the guy might have taken a shot at you!!
What if he did hit another car and they died?
If something really bad did happen you would have that on your mind forever, even if you were not directly responsible.

Keribeth - this was on Marsh Road (I think it's route 129 or 109...) It's a large stretch of road going between Saugus and Revere, and there's a rotary at the end.

psteng - some people call them roundabouts as well, but I think traffic circle fits the bill :)

right off of western ave, by the garbage incinerator. I don't have any idea what the actual speed limit on that road is. That rotary is a death trap, just got to watch out.

Why did you even bother? Does having some stickers on someone's car give you the directive to go pissing them off? All you are going to do is risk creating an incident. You can't control the way other people behave, but you can control the way you behave. By your own admission you boxed him behind you just to irritate him, that would piss off anyone. I don't see how this story is funny at all, I would hate to be driving on the same road as you.

Oh i had a better experience. Even posted it here a while back.

Was at a stoplight at night with no cars in sight and this souped up Civic came beside me... had exhausts and what sounded like a turbo or supercharger (then again might have just been a Cold Air Intake).

Anyway, i drive a Civic too. Just a plain stock EX Coupe. Wasn't doing much except enjoying my ride and the breeze.

Well this guy in the souped up Civic started revving and looking at me, tires screeching from having revved too high and still having the brakes on.

Lights then turned green, he chirped and went "zoom". I calmly turned right at the intersection and just when i was about to turn "wwwhhheeewwweeeewwwee". He got a ticket.

How's that for funny? :)

LOL - my point is, he's responsible for his own actions, not me. He coulda just flipped me off or revved his engine at me, and we woulda been even, and we coulda both laughed it off. Granted - he wouldn't have driven like he had if I didn't mess with him, but there's no reason to become reckless when I just sped up for a good 5 seconds. But then again, if he never put those stickers on in the first place, we wouldn't have this problem, now would we? :p;)

psteng- glad you asked. We don't have those here in WA.
First ones I'd ever seen were in Thailand. Saw a couple on a road trip a couple wks ago. Not sure if they were in CO or AZ or UT.... somewhere down there, tho'.

Rotary, huh?
Traffic circle
I was callin' 'em Round-a-bouts

in Thai, they're called "wongwian"

What if, What IF WHAT IF. What if, you don't wake up tomarrow?
What if we go to war, and you never had the chance to do that?
Cars were meant to be driven.

thanks for the clarification.

yeah, traffic cirlces/rotaries/roundabouts can be very dangerous for those who don't know how to navigate them, and i find that to be a pretty big percentage. but they are horrible inventions.
i've seen them in upstate NY only. they would never ever work in a big city like NYC.

very lucky no one got hurt in this incident.
