Funny occurances in life or How I got a TA In Trouble In College

Something this week reminded me of this, so i decided to post about it. When I went to college a few years back, my senior year I needed a writing course to fulfull a general education requirement. I decided to take Introduction to American History [Civil War-Present]. It was a BS 100 level class with all freshman and it was basically the same thing I took in 10th grade and got a 99 on the Regents Exam (NYers will know what these are). Anyway, I took the course as a joke (I even pass failed it, so I wouldn't worry about my GPA) and focused more on my major classes. The class was graded as such:

20% Two Short papers
30% Three Long Papers
30% 2 Tests in class
20% Discussion section (ran by the TA adjuncting to the main lecture)

The two short papers I received an A- and a C on
The three long papers I received a C, B, and B+ on
The midterm I received an A on, I did not know my final grade but I assumed a B/B+ it was simple
The discussion section was another story...

This TA was a very liberal woman from san francisco, I myself am a conservative... she ran the discussion in a very very liberal bias (see, she bashed George Bush non stop, with many nonsensical "he's dumb" type comments, she bashed the military, etc.)... many occasions happened where I had to correct her on basic nonsense (small example, she tried to argue that nobody with any credibility ever said that the Lusitania was suspected of carrying armaments in it that was just one...)

One day a girl of Korean origin raised her hand and began to bash the US gov'ts policy towards South Korea. This really bothered me, but I let it slide, whatever, let her feel that way. The teacher went on a tirade about how the United States doesn't support South Korea, and then a bunch of other countries along with it. This infuriated me. There were a bunch of bright eyed freshman listening to a lady with verbal diareah(sp?) giving her heavily biased opinion the United States' foreign policy. So I raised my hand and when she looked over at me (she didnt like me to begin with since I corrected her many mistakes, usually not obnoxiously, but sometimes I was a dick, because I couldn't believe this woman was given the job of teaching assistant)... so I said something to the lines of "As far as I know, and last I checked we have a large force protecting the Nort/South Korean border, that's not the obligation the United States" The lady flipped out and went on a tirade that I shouldn't make it a racial issue, to what I responded that it wasn't an opinion like she had been giving, it was a fact...

From that moment on I knew she was going to fail me... anyway, I check my grades after the semester, and I see an F... I flip out and email a head of the history department asking wtf was up and I get back: Text

I respond with: Text

at that point I drive up all of my papers to school (3+ hours away)

by the time I get home, I see this in my email box: Text

I hope you enjoyed that story

Cliffs:
- I'm pretty conservative, I have a liberal TA for an intro history course I took my senior year
- The TA starts to teach these freshman her opinion was if it were fact
- I would frequently challange her assertations to which she became hostile with me
- She fails me.
- I email the head of the department
- He writes back: Text
- I write back: Text and go up to school 3+ hours and drop off my work
- He writes back: Text

- Profit!

I had a class where half the guys were homosexuals and everybody was at least 80% hippy. This one guy actually wore lipstick and dressed in women's clothes, even though he had a boyfriend.

Anyway, a lot of the homosexuals were also anti-religion. Me, being the subtly masculine, conservative Christian, had to restrain myself a lot when people were bashing heterosexuality, Jesus Christ, and George Bush.

I like how you wrote that 2nd e-mail in like 3 words and the professor writes back a novel

good freaking job OP. i'm really glad it worked out for you and at least the administration knows not to take the information of a TA blindly without the same evidence required by students...

Very nice. I am in the process of a somewhat similar situation. I hate people who think they can win over and/or ignore logic

That's awesome. I love to see people owning bastards of any type.

I had that twice in high school, though both instances there were extreme conservative teachers. It doesn't matter which side of the line you're on, go too far and you're an idiot.

I don't if it's just me, but your pdf conversion looks like crap. At 100% zoom, the text is so pixelated it is difficult to read.

nice. i got many B-s in general education classes (I was an econ major) where politics were involved...don't worry man, those type of people will never amount to anything and die in debt.

This is also why i take with a grain of salt high GPAs of people whom i interview. It usually means they are good at regurgitating Professor/TA opinions (which in most cases are extremely left wing).

ha ha ha...thats so funny! I had mostly interesting history professors, and almost minored in it. However, I never get tired of correcting people on their wrong history to this day!
Biggest (local) mistake: Virginia's border ends at the Potomac's edge...Maryland actually "owns" the entire Potomac (going back to the original land grants of the 18th century)

if you were truly joking you would have taken it for the grade rather than pass/fail...
