The way a good, smart parent stops their kid from being a video game addict who loses their grip on real life is to... be a good, smart parent long before the kid ever plays his first game. It's about building a good foundation, not waiting for the kid to get in trouble and then reacting.
Parents need to be proactive. Did you ever read The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People? This kind of parenting is exactly what the author talked about.

For example, if you want to teach a child to share his/her toys you lead by example. You take the child to the side and teach them how to share. Most parents don't do this. Instead if being proactive most are reactive. They use there status and size to overpower the child. This is how my parents dealt with the issues in our house.

Slapping a child across the face was never accepted.

Maybe where you're from. The amount of people I knew growing up that wouldn't talk back to their parents for fear of a slap in the mouth far outnumbers the amount of total shits I knew.

being abused as a child explains your attitude with using violence against those weaker than you.

If you can't control your children, you are a bad parent. The only exception is an actual behavioral disorder, which doesn't mean ADHD.

Every kid is different man. My older son is very difficult to "control", it's time consuming and exhausting....but like you said, he has behavioral issues overall. So it's very time consuming, and getting used to it now (without my wife working) is a must.

My younger son is ez pz, he gets in trouble in different ways.

Lol, you're rather funny. Spanking your child isn't child abuse. Mouthing off to your mother and her slapping you in the middle of a store is a much more effective way than saying "well, timmy, you're not getting a second serving of ice cream after dinner tonight unless you straighten up!" Please, one small pop in the mouth and they will not talk back again.

And that is exactly what is wrong with this generation. Their parents were bad.

oh puh-leeze. Talking back to your parents in a disrespectful way got you what you deserved. And it taught you to verbally respect others.

My parents never laid a hand on me that wasn't warranted, and I'm a better person for it.

The hard part now is curbing gameplay on smart phones. When I was in South Korea I saw a lot of children addicted to these games. How do you curb your child's gaming habits if its done on a smartphone? They can play the games on the go.

Give those Korean kids a break. Between school, homework, and hagwon, that's probably their outlet. Preferable to suicide, don't you think? Well, don't you? Monster!

Just like you recommend beating women when they get out of line...

Funny story.

When I was young I met a rapper. I told him " my cd's in stores but they not buyin ... "

he got insanely mad at me and said:

" n xxa ... i knew the first time I seen you I'd spend my life avoiding you "

Guess he didn't think it was funny.

I had anger issues growing up. I used to curse at my parents all the time. I remember one time when I gave my momma the middle finger. My dad heard us fighting and was standing by the window. He came inside and whipped me good. :(
