hey if your marketing can associate itself (consciously or not) with things that have worked without breaking trademarks... why not ?

Well... Qiaodan means exactly Jordan in chinese, so I'm assuming they're going for Micheal Jordan?

In Taiwan they sell a toothpaste called "Darlie" and my friend said it used to be called "Darkie". They have a cartoon black face on it from the jazz era or something. On it, obviously in chinese characters, it says, "Black people toothpaste"

In China, some cheap battery manufacturers put labels of well known brands such as panasonic and duracell on their batteries so they sell better.

ive seen this too. supposedly a while back maybe 50 years ago, all they used was "black people" toothepaste. my parents used to tell me about it. the people then thought black people had teeth that are extremely white and attractive, especially against their black skin, so they called it black people toothepaste.

GET OUT!

I purchased one when I was there, I kind of like it but I've used it all. I should've purchased the triple pack. Maybe I'll get more if I ever go back there for vacation.

yes.... piracy is a very VERY serious problem in China now. Anything that has a brand, you can find a knock off there. From clothes to dumplings to shampoo to soy sauce to auto parts (fake OEM parts) to shoes to just perhaps anything you can find in the market today.

The worst case I heard was a car manufacturer ripped off GM's Aero design and made an exact same copy of it (minus some features like ABS and CD player) and sold it 1000 less than the GM's "counterpart". Those thing sold well too.

I've seen that Darlie/Darkie toothpaste.

Remember it from back in the 1980s. Though if memory serves, the tubes that my mom brought back from Asia 20 years ago, the logo was slightly different in that the African (Black, or whatever is the official ethnic term these days) person on the logo didn't have a hat. It was a very 1920s Step-And-Fetch-It looking.

It's amusing how logos have changed in the USA durning the 1990s, become more politically correct. Aunt Jemima's logo, no more red bandana on the head and now with more Betty-Crocker-like clothes. The restaurant chain Sambo's is now Baker's Square.

Equal-opportunity humor for all! :)

Is the flavor "deep-fried and bbq'd" ?
