Memory : Corsair CMX512-4400 512mb x2(x4 when they arrive(

First, let me be the first to say, welcome to anandtech. :D

Second, the only possible way to increase your performance would be to OC your processor. Sorry, but pairing $600 cards with $100 processors is a road to pain. Is there anyway you could sell or send back your 7950GX2, you could get more money and spend it on a faster cpu and more modest gfx card, like a 7900GT.

Well the cpu ISNT 100$ its almost 200$
Also the 7900gt is crap, my friend has one and can barely play the new games.
The 7900GTX is great but its only 100$ less than the dual card which is the actual reason i got the dual card. No one on earth does send backs unless a product is broke you should know that :p even if it is broke all they will do is give another one and selling it on ebay or craigs list guarentees me losing about half my money. I cannot afford 1000$ for a cpu. I need to know the effects of this on my system as I contacted asus and they said my system was fine for the card. But lol its the people selling it so they will say anything id bet.
Also no one replied about the monitor... odd. Any other solutions? there are no dual core cpus for 939 that arent fx. And those (whistle) I assumed the GPUS would handle 99% of the work and my ram the other, the cpu really doesnt do ALOT in a pc, least from a techs point of view, allthough the dual cores do help for SOME games. ACK help. I just spend 900$ on ram and a vid card I dont want to know its useless. What can I do, OCing this cpu is pointless :p thats not the problem with it. 3200+ is plenty fast enough to run new games so sayith the asus gods, but its here that says different. Ackx2

On a bright side I just saw the X2 939 socket cpus are pretty cheap. about 200$ that I could afford, but why is one 4200+ 184$ and one 4200+ 339$ cant be that much cache diff to cause that cost diff can it? lemme know which I sould/need to get! I got about 200ish bucks left for the pc after the PS I have to get

Guys. C'mon.

If you cant afford a better CPU and you dont feel like you're CPU is cutting at 1.8-2ghz, just overclock!

I know its a scary thought if you haven't ever done it. But the rewards will be tremendous.

a 3000+ or 3200+ should overclock to 2.4ghz with ease. That's with stock cooling and stock voltage.

At stock voltage, you may be taking a fraction of it's life span as long as it stays cool.

Just think of it as a FREE upgrade!

I see you are still using that Antec Neopower PSU. We told you already that the A8N series motherboards have issues with it. Also, are you having problems with games in general or just this Most Wanted demo you keep speaking of? If the latter, I will say again; Demos are not final release software, they don't always work 100% correctly and are not always well optimized for some hardware configurations.

Ok... first off not very good foot to start on... first of all your cpu $200? Dualcore 939s are selling for $160 right now and most of them are 939 non-FX models. GPUs do PART of the work different aspects of a game are processesed either through GPU or CPU or both. OCing is not pointless. Technically with half decent cooling nowadays you can OC that cpu to the right under the 3ghz range.

second.. Dual core processors actually help on MOST if not all recently released games. Beside the fact they help ALL games in the other point that they handle other background programs while you are running a game in fullscreen.

Third... If you already have in your head what you know. why come here and ask some of us experts just to tell us we are wrong?

PS 7900GT does not blow... turbocache and hypermemory cards and their shared memory blow... Given my setup now if I had one it would probably be as fast if not faster than your setup.

I need to know what psu and CPU to get, I have about 170 bucks set aside for the ps already
and I scraped about 250$ for a new cpu, I was asking if the X2 maybe 4400+ would be a great start on this board. To make things clear I know computers and took 3 years of Networking tech and to add more I have been programing since I got my c64 when most of you were in diapers lol. This doesnt really mean anything but I know what I know which is almost nothing :p. Seriously the 7900gt isnt a great card imo but that IS an opinion. And its shared by LOADS of others as is yours. I read above that the a8n boards dont handle the antec PSU. I was going to buy an antec so I need a heads up there. As for me thinking I know it all? "if you already have in your head what you know. why come here and ask some of us experts just to tell us we are wrong? " never said anyone was wrong... hope this wasnt posted at me, unless you are talking about the 7900gt :p
Also i never said OC'ing was pointless, what i said was oc'ing my cpu the 64 3200+ was pointless. :)
Basically I need to know now if getting the x2 939 4400+ is worth it. I mean all fargin amds run around 2.2ghz even the fx dont run 3ghz. Overclocking my cpu to match 2.4+ would just ask for my mainboard to fry(cause I dont run a great cooling setup just fans not water)
Will the 7950gx2 be a great card with the x2 4400+ ?
And what psu doth I need, I was told 550 or 600watt and i know antec is about the best
Btw I know the way to go is either conroe or the am2 shits but as of now i just cant afford it.
Any more input?

"PS 7900GT does not blow... turbocache and hypermemory cards and their shared memory blow... Given my setup now if I had one it would probably be as fast if not faster than your setup. "
HUH?

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80701-2 my cpu
and this is the one I was looking at getting
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80726-1

That plus 2gb of well not pc6400 800mhz ram but pretty damn expensive corsair ddr550 4400 ram + the 7950gx2 = decent machine?
And I still need a heads up on the PS as well

Basically Hearsay of friends other "techies" dont really mean much to true gamers as every rig is specific. If you notice on benchmarks people with same cards getting super performance say 5000+ 3dmark scores and others will get closer to 3000 with almost identical setups. differences being software and overlooked hardware (PSU, cooling, drivers, service packs and patches, simple motherboard drivers and firmwares)

overclocking... If you have been keeping up with overclocking the 939/x2 line of AMD chips hit around 2.6ghz average and some getting up to 3ghz+ on air out the box (even base model 3800+ x2 w/ stock heatsinks) stable as can be running 24/7. All functioning and benching at or beyond stock FX levels minus the extra 512mb x 2 cache advantage.

PSU needed would depend more on how many USB devices/hard drives and other peripherals you run. 600w+ tend to be sufficient enough. If its 2 hard drives, 1 optical and that mobo you mentioned 550w is fine.

The dual core standpoint from reports across the board show that amds AM2 never really made a huge difference with its support of DDR2 memory as well as Conroe does. Being said that basically Intel may be king as its prices are also lower in comparison to its P4 series yet AMD still has that ATI thing up their sleeves.

I do apologize for the comments in earlier posts... its just that opinions and what friends computers do usually have nothing to do with your personal setup. strong opinions on ESPECIALLY video cards tend to bring the flamers and fanboys... me being neutral.

Im quite afraid of getting cpus off sites because the same name, model and cached cpus have different prices.
this is the cpu I was looking at getting.

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80726-1

what scared me is this cpu is 500$ in the stores here, so im kinda afraid its not what it claims to be, also is the caching bad on this cpu seems 1mb +1mb isnt bad, its no conroe but.
I see you have a 3800+ x2 whats its caches? And I still need help with the psu issue people say asus a8n boards have with antec, I was kinda looking at the phantom but im not sure if it will fit in my case, Raidmax Scorpio 6 fans! lol
It seems you are all for me getting a new x2 so i think that is the best option. I want this pc to run as best as it can with the 7950gx2 on a 939 amd socket ! I will listen to any and all solutions!
btw im not an ati fanboy lol i got a 7950gx for christmas sake! i love nvidia just not the 7900gt. RIght now i have a 6600gt TOP and im horridly displeased with it.
Thanks for the continued help! lemme know more!

1)CPU upgrade is out of the question. I live in India, I am 16 and I don't have that kind of money.

2)I will try to oc my cpu as much as possible.

3)Somebody/Many people are using NeoHE 500 with asus mobos, and they know. Earlier revision gave white smoke with the mobo but revision A3 onwards is fine.

I have the following:

Amd 64 3200 Winchester: +yr old
Asus A8N E: +yr old
2 X 1GB Transcend DDR 400 (Hynix D43 chips): less than 2.5 months old
Antec NeoHE 500 : new

1)How much do you think I should be able to oc at stock cooling but more voltage?
2)How much do you think I can oc with Thermaltake Big Typhoon and more voltage?
3)I want it to survive for 2yrs and be fine. I know the performance won't be good 1yr down the line, but I can't upgrade before that. I am 16 and have to study for my entrance and exams and I anyway won't have much time soon. It should just work whatever that speed cpu should work.

1. No one knows, oc-ing is trial and error.
