Dude, that's the funny thing about Indian accents. My parents/uncles/aunts etc. speak with an Indian accent, but its been softened with living in the US and besides I can understand a North Indian accent. But my roommate in grad school was from South India, and he spoke so fast while mashing all his syllables into one long word, I had NO IDEA what the fvck he was saying.

That's weird, I can understand every word, but I don't know any Indians. I do understand pidgin, which is a sort of creole-like bastardization of English, so maybe that helps deciphering US softened accents.
