A long time ago, when the Linux kernel was still young, kernel panics featured a "Prepare for Armageddon" message just before dumping registers.

"You do not exist. Go away."

Was on a Slackware 3.5 machine when it lost it's /etc directory. Two weeks later pieces of that machine were in four states. I went about a year before having any other PC even lock up.

Not exactly an error message, but BeOS had a pair of status messages:

If the system was fine, and nothing was wrong: "Your system is on."
If there was a problem: "Your system is on fire."

Back when I played Asheron's Call there was one day they had a server crash and when you tried to log on it said "Error! Catastrophic failure!". Who knows what actually happened, and it never showed up again, but the fact that someone decided to show a user an error message with "catastrophic" in it is just hilarious.

I've got two ... one was from Microsoft Word: ! Catastrophic Failure. No other details.

The second from our financial software when I tried to exit a screen: "You can't exit ... now". :p

Years ago, I was using a user-written command processor and was not aware that I had typed in the wrong command. The info I was getting was not what I expected so I tried help. After several layers of short help info, I got "Boy r u dumb".

Don't know if this qualifies as an error message but it is definitely a glitch, or at least I hope it was a glitch.

Everyday I get an email from exchange telling me my mailbox is over size limit. Since I deal with a lot of attachments, I just ignore them (not those kind of attachments, sicko!). One day, I get the email and something about it was just wrong. Took me a few seconds to figure out it was in Traditional Chinese! I can read is so it doesn't register that fast in my head that it is in a different language. I print it out, take it up to the IT folks and they were scratching their head while I laughingly cried Racial Profiling :)

I would always chuckle when Unix System V would crash and issue a message to the console that began with "PANIC:"

If it had more trouble trying to deal with the system crash (usually bad RAM), you'd get a "DOUBLE PANIC:" message.

Click the "Expand" button at the top to view the first post - that has all of the error message screenshots.

The first line of the OP has a link to the previous edition, and that one has a link to the previous edition, and so on... you could spend hours going through those. It used to be a monthly feature where they'd put them all in one post, but now they do 3 posts a week with one error apiece.

ROFL! :D

For some reason that was the only message in this thread that truly made me laugh out loud - a rare occurrence for me :)
