Funky CD ROM Noise w/disk

Here's an interesting ordeal. I have a SCSI Plextor 32TS CD ROM Drive - sometimes I put a cd in and I'll sit there waiting for the disk to be read...but I hear a funky noise. It sounds like the disk is being bounced up/down in the tray...like something is banging on it. This noise will con't all night until I open the tray and take the disk out. Any suggestions on why this might happen? Bad drive? old drive? bad disk? Who knows...maybe you do? Thanx in advance.

I have an installation CD that will make CD drives make funny noises (like its being bounced all over the place). Loading another CD cures it.
Load another CD and see if it makes the noise.
