"Function Driver not Specified for this Device Instance"

This is a fairly modern machine based around a TForce-939 motherboard. Several usb devices work, including a card reader, a gamepad and a Nostromo n52. My usb devices that don't work are my new Ergoboard 4000 from Microsoft, along with a Canon scanner and a usb keyboard from Belkin.

I've searched all over for this, including the newsgroups. Sites like this have workarounds. But ultimately, all of them require an .inf to load instead of the one windows finds. My ergoboard 4000 didn't come with a driver disk, so all I can do is run the intellitype installer. The error persists.

All of these devices work fine in Linux on the same machine (except the scanner, which isn't supported by sane), including the ergoboard 4000, which I'm typing this message with:

input: USB HID v1.11 Keyboard [Microsoft Natural\uffff Ergonomic Keyboard 4000] on usb-0000:00:0b.0-6

So that rules out some of the potential causes, such as a miswired port/bad firmware/bad cable. I should add that I have SP4 along with all rollups/updates for Win2k. Also, usb keyboard support is enabled in the bios and the keyboard works for navigating the bios and in grub. I'd appreciate any help on this.
