FUNC pads

I've heard good things, but I'm looking for input.
I'm looking at a pair of 1030 originals or f-series.

I was going to just order a single 1030 and test it, if I didn't like it my GF would get it and I would try something else. She's found out that you can put your own image on the pads, so she wants to design her own.

Anyone used these? if so what are your opinons?
using a g5, shes got an mx518, would like to hear about any compatability issues with other mice if they exist though.

I would like to hear some response on this topic as well. Thinking of doing the same thing as your GF.

I purchased a 1030 pad for my GF over a year ago, and it is decent. Top-rate construction and durability. Also, having two surface textures to choose from offers a higher chance of compatibility.

Having said that, I never liked the 1030 (either surface) much; I prefer my mousing surfaces to be as low-friction as possible, and even with teflon mouse skates, the 1030 is not as slick as the CS Hyde or XTrac Pad Hybrid. This is not to say that the 1030 is rough- it simply does not offer the gliding sensation that the CS Hyde and XTrac do. This may be a plus if you like a bit more control as opposed to less friction.

I have tried a wide range of mice with these pads (laser and optical), including the MX518, and found tracking to be the same (excellent). Thus far, the XTrac Hybrid is my favorite all-around pad. The CS Hyde with a bit of armor-all on the mouse feet is a close second. My GF is happy with the 1030, but then again, she is far less selective that I when it comes to these things.

I use an MX1000 mouse on a func 1030 pad on the smoother surface for fps (DoD:S and TF2) as well as WoW and it's been working great. I'm a medium level sensitivity mouse user so the 'smooth' side is just smooth enough to allow for fast response without being too slick.

I tried using the rougher control surface of the func pad but it wasn't allowing my MX1000 to respond as well.
