I haven't done a fresh install in about 2 or so years so many of you probably already either knew how to handle this or have experienced this pain much earlier than I did...

I got a new Dell G15 laptop and got a new Samsung 990 Pro SSD for the boot drive...Downloaded the latest windows 11 media creation tool and created my USB install drive.

I boot up the laptop and the drive is not found is not found in Windows setup. After some quick googling, I find out that I have to have the Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers present on the USB drive so that I can load the drivers so that Windows setup can find my new SSD. (and after some trial/error, I actually have to specify the actual sub folder the drivers are in, setup won't find the drivers if you just select the parent folder)...also, downloading the .exe file to install the IRST drivers won't run in Windows setup...ask me how I know LOL

I also wanted to do a local account instead signing in with a Microsoft account. I remember previously some trick to use 'test@test.com' for the email address but I guess that doesn't work anymore. So I do some more googling and find some hack to disconnect the internet connection before you select your keyboard so that you get the option 'No Internet available' when setting up the account. So after all of this, I finally got Windows 11 installed.

I remember back int he good ol' days that this process was more pain free than what I went through last night...(boot Windows setup, select Boot Drive to install windows to and BAM, Windows started installing).

But the pain was worth it...just deleting the bloatware Add/Remove programs doesn't really help...my used memory immediately after a re-boot went from 8GB down to 5.5GB after the fresh install.

I'm gonna go outside and yell at some clouds or tell at people to get off my lawn now...

I'd try to get into the laptop's BIOS config and configure it to do standard stuff rather than Intel weird storage stuff.

There's a thread here about bypassing the more annoying aspects of Win11 online setup:

Dell has it set to some RAID setting by default instead of AHCI...From what I saw, AHCI should have been another way to do this...

Thanks for the that info on bypassing those annoying Windows 11 setup steps...

EDIT:

This is what I did: Home edition had to use SHIFT+F10 to execute command OOBE\BYPASSNRO to continue
