People annoy me. Many of the people who are "friends" on my facebook account are former acquaintances from when I went to high school. Many of them are as stupid now as they were back then. Every day, there are dozens of status updates about how to get 15 extra chicken coops for farmville, or some other similar crap. Now, every other person has a status about how those previous statuses were all scams. Since these automatons all quote every single status that says "copy this into your status so everyone can know," I'm trying to think of something good; a practical joke, if you will. Some sort of fake warning, but it has to be believable. I'm thinking something like a great big lie:

Note! The founders of facebook have announced that it was discovered that farmville was selling everyone's information and pictures to the Chinese government...

or
Note! The founders of facebook have announced that the US government has been monitoring people playing Farmville. As you can purchase credits online, there is a value to the credits. The IRS considers any credit that you have earned in the game to be a tangible asset which can be taxed. They are going to base their 2010 audits on people who play farmville. Copy this to your status to warn everyone.

I kind of like the 2nd idea, but it definitely needs to be tweaked before posting it to facebook. If anyone wants to help, a cleverly designed website with the same information might be useful.

I'd like #2 if you tweak it a bit, and make it simple enough for even the average Farmville user to understand it. Something more like...

Obama has asked the IRS to tax purchases in FarmVille! We cannot let this stand! Join my "DO NOT TAX FARMVILLE!!!" protest group, and copy this to your status to warm everyone!

Simply adding the words Obama and tax in the same sentence should get a few of those Tea Party wackos to join :)

Pretty damn funny. The irs always gets a person's attention. It might be quite revealing in that some who fall for it will want to 'comply' and others will want to elude.

How do you know that your presence here is not known to any of your facebook friends?

The only ones smart enough to find this place aren't the ones who post such messages.

Does it have to be farmville related? I'd do something like this:

February is Women's Suffrage Awareness month! Copy this into your status to raise awareness and END WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE!!

Calm down, its just a rant with a crafty idea attached to open peoples eyes to the sillyness that is facebook.

In my experience, such crafty ideas display poorly on the originator and are typically later regretted. Maybe that is just me though.

You know you can hide all those notifications, or hide people that post those incessantly.

People that rant about facebook are the worst D:

Wow, you're really going off the deepend DrPizza. Trolling and now this? What has Facebook done to you?

There are enough incredibly annoying people that it's raised my level of tolerance from "very patient" to "about to snap." I figure that by directing my irritation toward those very same individuals, it'll give me a sense of relief.

There's the narcissistic guy who, in case you didn't see his website with 150 poses of himself in a flash video, posts a couple new poses a day. This week, it's serious expression time.

There's a few "Jesus blessed me with a godly man. I've been blessed with a wonderful family. Praise the Lord. I've gotta take a crap & have been constipated for 3 days - say a prayer for me" people.

Then there's the several dozen people who play Farmville 10+ hours a day, every day. I wouldn't mind, because I can block that application. But, it's spilled over into their other status messages, with tons of messages urging me to fall for some scam so I can get an extra chicken coop.

That's great, but there are quite a few females who are intelligent enough to figure that one out & who I actually am friends with and wouldn't want to irritate.

Psssst

Hover just to the right of those annoying farm town apps and a "HIDE" button will appear. Click on it. :D

Or you could post this:

"Please put this on your status if you know someone (or are related to someone) who has been eaten by dragons. My wish for 2010 is that people will understand, that being eaten by dragons is not something to be ashamed of. Dragons are nearly unstoppable and are truly terrifying. 93% won't copy and paste this... They have been eaten by dragons. I once almost had another brother...but...the...dragon..."

You may be right. I've typed a half dozen things into my status, stared at them, then cleared it rather than clicking update.

That might be a better idea Mosh - something completely silly to point out how idiotic most of those things are. And, I wouldn't mind the stupid games - if I could effectively block those applications. It's almost as if the people who play those applications realize that everyone else has them blocked, so in desperation to get someone to fertilize their garden a 3am, they post it into their regular status.

You can effectively block them. Hit the HIDE button and it lets you block it.

Yeah, unless someone can think of a really good status that'll spread like wildfire, I think I'll just post something silly & stick with trolling the fools, one fool at a time.
