Something got me to thinking about this tonight for some strange reason, but when we're at work we use an aweful lot of Acronyms in our daily work. I've confused the h*ll out of my boss a few times doing that. I have become so used to it that I don't even think about it anymore. It's actually kinda hilarious to listen to us. Example:
"Hey, is BR4 serving BGP correctly?"
"Nope, Isec is causing a D6 on SR4 which is causing BGP to go AS and TADN."
"So Isec is screwing our TCP routing through our entire network or just SR4?"
"The whole thing."
"Any way we can ETF and get BGP to DIT?"
"Only if we dump Isec and Reload BGP which puts R&D in the big D6."
"Oh well. Do it, and for the time being, 86 the Isec server until we're sure BGP is not going to TADN again."
Let me translate that for all of you who have no idea what that said.
BR4 stands for Border Router 4, one of our big routers used to link with several of the big backbones in this area.
BGP is short for Border Gateway Protocol, aka how my border routers talk to say UUnet for example.
Isec is "Intranet Security Enforcement Controler", aka an IPsec style network security server, only a level higher.
TCP, well, this is obvious.
TADN = Take a dirt nap, aka die, go down, crash.
AS = Ape Sh*t.
SR4 = Service Router 4, it's one of the internal service routers on our network.
ETF = Effect a Temporary Fix
DIT = Don't remember what DIT stands for, but it basically means that if you want something to DIT, you want it to work correctly, or behave.
R&D = Obvious.
86 = Kill it, end it, etc.
You guys do anything like this at work? I'm sure a few of you have to fill out your TPS reports from time to time.
