Why are there so many burnouts in this video? Do people think that's cool?

melting tires is kind of a thing among performancy car folks. It's both a demonstration of the ability to overcome the available traction at will, and a homage to true drag racers who do so before a run to heat up/clean the tires for increased traction. And it's fun which is probly more important than the other stuff. With very few exceptions, if your tires are spinning, you aren't accelerating, and tires are expensive anymore. I was never really into it but I understand it.

Other than in a drag race I don't think the hellcats have anything for the z06, heck of a lot of car for the money.

I was a little pissed at the way they were melting down the tires down on the Hellcat. I mean a nice burnout for the camera is fine, but don't be stupid.

I wonder if anyone wanting a Z06 is experiencing what people wanting the Hellcat are, insane dealer mark-up's. A local dealer has a hellcat in stock, price?, $97K. Even if I were rich and could afford these new amazing toys Detroit is cranking out I couldn't live with myself for letting a dealer bend me over for 33 thousand over the MSRP. That being said the Z06 is an amazing car for the price, I'm not a huge fan of the headlights creeping all the way up the front fender like that but strictly as a performance machine that has no compromises whatsoever, it is amazing.

Can't you shave close to a second off the Hellcat 1/4 time with drags? I think I read that somewhere....could be wrong.

Also, I really want to make a burnout snowball.

Yea, I think I read that somewhere too. The standard tires are not shitty tires by any stretch, $300 a pop, but they are so easily overwhelmed by that engine LOL..

i imagine just about any tire will be from a standing start.

It's all just foot discipline, least till you have some tech doing it for you. One of the things years past that made German stuff feel so magic was the balance they would strike between available power, braking, traction and handling. Stuff like NA 944's and E30's and stuff from that era are a good example, you could drive those cars at 9/10's a hell of a lot easier than a domestic v8 counterpart even though they had way more power. The level of tech now has done away with that to a goodly degree (i guess), but I don't think it's making better drivers out of anyone myself.

Regardless out which is faster I'd take the hellcat. I need the noise. The tesla may be fast but doesn't have the wail of a V8. The hellcat just sounds mean. With cars like this it's not just about speed but enjoyment. I'm not taking corners at speed, but I certainly can punch the throttle and put a huge smile on my face between the speed and sound.

That is what I was thinking too. Wonder if the Hellcat even had tread left when they dragged them? :)

Yea, a 707 HP engine will enable the owner to do epic burn-out's that Bruce Springsteen writes songs about, but when you have to fork over $650 every 2 weeks because everyone who sees your cat wants a smoky show it must be dumb at some point.

The humorous irony is the more sticky the tire(and more expensive) the faster they wear out. You can destroy a set in a (curvy) track weekend. Such stuff as that separates the proverbial men from the boys.

The burnouts are probably because Dodge knows how to market this car and paid for them. Look at Chris Harris' videos, the manufacturers usually provide several sets of tires just so they can do powerslides and burnouts and whatever else.

If the Hellcat had AWD or even bigger rear tires it would kill the Tesla.

Yeah this engine is just begging to be put in Grand Cherokee or RAM with 4WD and wide tires all around. Plus you could go with big wheels and tires with a good amount of tread too so you wouldn't have to be changing tires every 2 months. I'd love to see Dodge take Chevy's idea from the Z-28 Camaro and put 10.5" tires in front and back.

Dodge should do a RAM Hellcat concept with a tube frame chassis super wide rears (maybe dually?) and the engine mounted behind the cab and turn the hood into a trunk. Maybe put a couple of collapsable racing bucket seats in the bed too, nestled under the roll cage, with them sitting right next to the engine.

That or do a new Sidewinder concept (it was a mid 90s convertible pickup concept that had a Viper GTS-R engine in it and tires with flame patterned tread) when they do the supercharged V10 for the Viper.

They might be limited be cafe restrictions as to what vehicles it's offered in. Dodge already has a LOT of cars that chew through fuel LOL. Admirably though the Hellcat can achieve 20 MPG Hwy provided you driving it at a sane speed and really that's quite an achievement for a car that produces 700+ HP.

Dear video producers: Quit sack riding the Charger.

Dodge Charger is the past. The Tesla is the future. Put the Charger in it's coffin.

I would take the Tesla P85D over the Hellcat any day. I've test driven the P85D and it is amazing.
