so I am having scheduling conflicts and am both going to have a day off and donate platelets next Friday.

I drive stick so the beach is probably out of the question ( or maybe not?) - alcohol/clubs too I guess. I was thinking about a concert but I might fall asleep.

Ideas?

DC metro area btw.

This happened a short time ago so I am curious to see what crazy things I've missed. I try to be the DD so going out with the friends is a dumb idea (they are idiots and I am NOT riding around with them after they start drinking)

if you're donating just platelets it wont really matter unless you plan on cutting yourself in the near future

I've donated pretty regularly since I turned 16 and haven't really noticed any adverse effects from it. Believe me, I've done my fair share of drinking afterward as well.

I have O Negative as well. I was well on my way to my 2 gallon pin until my accident and resulting transfusions deferred me for a year... :|

Ha. So they counted the transfusions against you?

No, they didn't count against me. I just can't donate until next July because I received blood. Has to do with the risk of infectious diseases.

I guess it's a good thing I've been donating all these years and racking up the Karma points, eh? :)

OP, I had a manual transmission in my truck before I sold it and switched to bike transport. Just have them stick your non shifting hand and you'll be fine. Also, even though they tell you to sit down and eat something, I always just walk out, hop on the bike and ride to work. I'm not saying some people don't feel faint after donating, I just think the odds are pretty good you'll be fine.

Gave blood last Saturday and the guy told me that if you give fairly regularly, then you will be fine. If you give sporadically, or it is your first time, hang out for a few minutes.

My sister gave last Sat too and she was fine for about 5 minutes and then just randomly passed out.

I can't really figure out what you're after... Go fly a kite?

My point is you can do anything after giving blood that you could do after not giving blood.

Go out and treat yourself to a nice steak dinner to replace some of the lost protein maybe?

I donate platelets regularly too. That anticoagulant stuff kind of kicks my ass for a few hours after (I go every 2 weeks). I just come home and drink a lot of fluids and I'm back up to normal in a few hours. At that point I can do anything I would normally do.
