Fun Oil Change

Hey, aren't they all? Don't remember that last time I did one at home instead of having a shop do it. Just hate getting on the ground and crawling under stuff.

Bought oil and filters a while ago on sale with a gift card bonus from something. Took a bot to find it though. The receipt was in the bag ... October '23.

Hey, I don't drive this car much and it probably doesn't have 2,000 miles since then.

Filter came off easy. Drain plug came out easy.

Fun part was the green antifreeze coming out of the oil drain first. Not black oil, brown oil, or even milky white goo ... bright green antifreeze. Not a lot, maybe a couple of tablespoons. Cold, so probably settled out.

Yeah, I know what it means, but this '95 still runs fine. If it dies, it dies. I've had it for 25 years and paid 4K for it back then, so I've gotten my money out of it.

Not looking to spend a grand on a gasket job and that ain't something I'm trying on my own.

They make chemical head gasket sealant. I have no experience with them, and am pretty skeptical they work at all, but it might be worth a try if you absolutely aren't gonna fix it properly. I know nothing about them, but I suspect the results would be better adding them sooner than later. The leak gets worse, the channel gets bigger, and the chemicals are overwhelmed.

I get that. No more back to concrete for me though since the 4-post got put in. Banged out two quick OC's yesterday, as a matter of fact.

What vehicle are we talking about here? Some head gasket jobs aren't all that bad to do; so long you torque the head bolts back down the correct way. It's also a good way to see what sort of shape the top of the block and head are in.

...of course if it's a traverse V6 or something then god help you.
