I am writing this for a friend who has recently got the fun love virus. This virus has infected all of his .exe's ( A total of 369 files). He has tried to use the Dell restore disc to put his machine back to normal but that has not worked.
He is running a P3 800 Dell Dimension XPS 4100. Win 98 SE.

He has not tried reformatting the drive without using the recovery disc because he is uncertain if the disc can still be used afterwards.

Any help on removing the virus would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Did you try the free McAfee Online scan? Not free really, free trial it is.

Yes, he has tried using the online scans from mcaffee and symantec and both did not succeed in curing his system.

does the restore disc actually format the drive, or does it just replace files that are missing? You might want to try just formatting and then using the restore disc, there's no reason why that shouldn't work, since the disc couldn't have gotten a virus.

actually, if you're unsure if the disc will work on a formatted system, try chiwawa's method first

If one file with funlove gets left over, then u will get infected again, MAKE SURE TO LOOK AT THE LOG FILE WHEN ITS DONE (STILL IN DOS) AND DELETE OR REMOVE OR REPLACE ANY FILES THAT HAVE NOT BEEN FIXED THIS IS THE MOST URGENNT THING!!!
