The brash titular comment is sparked by me coming across a Matt Yglesias post about the Global Economic Impact of Immigration, which is worth reading and discussing in itself. But let me jump to the hypothesis of this thread.

Companies in our capitalist marketplace grow or wither because we vote with our wallets on the quality of their good and services. If likewise we allowed completely free migration throughout the world, would this not lead to just, successful nations being enriched by added human resources, while oppressive and failed nations die a quick death due to a lack of cronies to do their dirty work?

The problems with this "solution" are incredibly obvious, but it's a fun thought experiment. Imagine a North Korea with a population of 2 as Jong Il and his boy sit in their palace while the real party's going on over in SK. Funny thing is the law to enforce this is already in place within the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights:

Article 13.

* (1) Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each state.
* (2) Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country.

I say we push for enforcement of this article and ask the UN to form an army to force compliance for any nation that refuses. We'll have world peace by Friday! :awe:
