MVV is a measurement of maximum voluntary ventilation

the procedure consists of you inhaling and exhaling as quickly and as much air for a duration of 10 seconds.

http://www.gieson.com/Library/projects/utilities/stopwatch/index.html

there is a flash stopwatch if you need one.

10 seconds seems longer than it is, do you start to get tired at the end of 10 seconds? or still puffing strong.

if you were 5'6" the amount you could exhale out of your lungs should be rougly 4.5liters of air (FVC), MVV would be roughly .8 to .9 of this value multiplied by 40

a 5'6" healthy male should be moving at least 144L of air per 10 seconds, thats 288 water bottles, pretty impressive. at rest the same person would take 10-12 breaths of 400ml per minute.

Still puffing strong.

Some even use this method of hyperventilation to allow them to hold their breath longer.
