Full Time Work/Full Time School

For the past couple of weeks, I've been doing full time school(SUNY Stony Brook)/full time work(Best Buy.) I feel that I come home, have to do homework, and just end up hating life. Everyday is like every other day, I'm always tired, I always have to something. People tell me how great college is, but as a commuter student working, this has probably one of the worst times in my life. When people say they can't handle school, and they're just dorming there, not working, it just pisses me off. I really feel there is simply no way out. Thanks for hearing me out.

EDIT: I'm a freshman at school, and I'm 18.

I bet working at Worst Buy doesn't help much either... I did the same thing when I went to community college. Big mistake. I ended up not really going to school and just working and I just happened to goto this "other place" everyday to bide my time. It was a pain in the arse. I say just cut back work to 20 hours a week maybe less. It'll help you.

why not get 2 part time jobs?

If you become an RA you usually can get free housing

I work a full-time job (43+ hours/week) and am a full-time student. I have no life outside of work and classes during the week.

yeah but I'm commuting. Sometimes I don't know why I'm doing this. And to balance availibility and such is another PITA.

Much the same here.

Worked for the state cpa society for three years while at a state university (had a job prior as well, but changed to the aforementioned position as it was closer to campus). Worked 37.5 hours per week (the maximum as a part timer, without benefits), and paid all my own living expenses (apartment, utlilities, insurance). Also took a full load of credits (15 to 18 hours, once as high as 20) each semester in a demanding major (Mathematics). It was certainly difficult, but in retrospect I can honestly say I appreciate that intense portion of my life, and the experience (not only work experience, but life experience as well) gained during that time.

Don't despair. The time spent on your education passes so quickly, and your life experiences will prove much more diverse than many others of a similar age after graduation.

well, since it's not working, start drawing up a change in plans

If you stop commuting, you'll prob experience a lot more time to do things b/c it's not spent parking, driving, etcetc

thats the thing-when it comes down to it, no sh!t I hate doing this, but I'm one of those people who realize, "you gotta do what you gotta do." Its that I feel really lonely, like everyones going along with their own lives, and having fun at school, but here I am working like a dog.

alm4rr-what do you mean by its not working?

i guess that paycheck means it is working, but I just don't enjoy life anymore, like someone just killed my spirit.

But so fun....like a 36 hour shift in the ER.
I like the pressure. When I dont have to go to school ( christmas break) I go stir crazy.
But I will defeat that this year by taking wintersession.
But for most it seems a bad idea.

the thing that kills me is since I work at best buy, all this talk of black friday, granted yeah so many people to help bla blah blah, but everyone's getting gifts for each other enjoying life, and here I am standing by myself while everyone else is having fun and enjoying life. As I'm writing this, I feel so sh!tty.

yeah but that means I have to pay more money for school, and I cant have a car on campus. Then I'm just a student who can't afford school.

I did it for 2+ years. 16 class hrs/week + 12 clinical hrs/week + 48 fulltime job hrs/week with occasional overtime shift. I did help that I enjoy my job and class. Clinicals sucked though.

i like where i work-easy stuff, full time in Car audio, but I don't know much about that stuff, came from doing 1.5 years in Home theater as a master. Still learning about car audio, but it doesn't seem that bad. The hour each way to school sucks, paying for the car, gas , food, parents working extra jobs (mom/dad now working day and night jobs), not seeing each other, its that I never expected life to be like this. Two years agao before I started working, I thought that I would be living it up at NYU or GW, some great $50 k a year school , having that fun college experience. Now I just feel like a fvckin townie, while I watch everyone else enjoy thei lives.

as a junior in high school, I was at the top of my class, and so sure about everything. My teachers, friends, and family saw me change as well. Then everything went downhill, all that keeps my alive are my dreams, believing in God, and karma.

I've gotta try harder in school and get drunk less

I'm debating going motorcyle shopping tomorrow because I think I need a spontaneous purchace.... the mustang isn't bold enough for me:)
