Full Test: 2004 Pontiac GTO

It may be faster, but at hiway speeds the drone of the SRT's exhuast gave me a headache after 20 mins.

I was expecting more performance wise, but I do have to attribute that to it being an auto. The styling is just kinda blah. But I wouldn't kick it out of bed. And for once, a decent interior in a GM vehicle!

Uh, I don't see the SRT4 being faster... stock SRT4s run the 1/4 in high 13s/low 14s, the GTO does it in a mid 13. I can see the Neon getting to 60 maybe a hint quicker, but it would get run down within a second or so.

You might want to read that article NFS4 posted. Their GTO went 14.0.
And who cares if the Neon is quicker, it's still a Neon.

So what are we basing the SRT4 numbers off of? Edmunds managed a 6.3 0-60 and a 14.9 1/4 in the 2003 SRT4 (which are notoriously underrated) and the only differences between the 2003 and the 2004 SRT4s are a LSD and the fact that Dodge upped the power on the labels.

actually, the performance numbers are kinda disappointing given the amount of HP it makes.

Edmunds drivers can't drive worth a crap. Most magazine editors can't for that matter.

not worth the name, it would seem. The thing looks like an over glorified Grand Prix or Grand Am.

I was thinking more along the lines of a Cavalier or sunfire. If they could only make the exterior look as good as the interior.

Not when you consider how much it weighs. 3700+ is a hog. It'd be deep in the 13's, even with the automatic if it was closer to 3000lbs.

What do you think the original GTO was? It was an over-glorified, as you put it, Tempest.

You assume this because they're not able to instantly get the same performance numbers that the car company's day in day out driver can?

Besides, who could live without the Stigg?

man, you're just ripping me apart this evening. 😛
It's just a little too run of the mill looking yet. Compare say the 2000 Pontiac model year. The Trans Am/ Firebirds looked so much different than anything else, which was the cool thing about them. The GTO looks too much like the rest of the line up.
