Full Test: 2004 Mitsubishi Galant + Financial woes at Mitsubishi

Full Test: 2004 Mitsubishi Galant
As you can tell, we're not sold on the idea of the Galant as an ideal midsize family sedan. Engineered with a fun personality and roomy seating for its passengers, its potential to satisfy is limited by materials shortcuts in the cabin, a lack of side curtain airbags, a small all-in-one stereo/climate display and too little storage space and trunk capacity. From an enthusiast's standpoint, the fact that you can't get a manual transmission with either the four- or the six-cylinder engine is also disappointing. All is not lost, though, as the Galant is still basically a solid sedan ? especially if you want one that handles as well as it rides ? and suitable for those who don't want to drive what "the experts" think they should drive.

And Mitsubishi continues it's downward spiral:

Losses force Mitsubishi to rethink turnaround plan

Is it me, or does the new Galant look something like a Maxima?

[Edit]: I should have stated Maxima front ... with a Dodge Intrepid rear.

... and cue the entrance of Flyermax to say how Mitsubishi rocks and that everyone who drives a Honda is a riceboy, even 40something businessmen with Accord sedans. 😉

Judging by the average appearance of most of those models, she had to go to her morning classes at the local middle school. 😛

Well in my eyes mitsubishi is like kia, except costs more money. Their commercials are just as cheesy and cater to society's lower socioeconomic rungs, much like kia, and that's why I would just never buy a mitsubishi. I would expect this snoobish attitude of mine to be the reason a lot of people don't buy mitsucrappies.

and they give credit to these low rungs (and to higher rungs, 0% interest with no payments for a year) and then wonder why people are defaulting on their loans and they're not making any interest income.

If mitsubishi stopped selling cars in the US I doubt anyone would miss them.

you are wrong, the ricerbois will!

Yeah, I don't like their TVs either. A co-worker of mine bought a 95ish Eclipse because she was a girl and thought it looked cool, and since Mitsubishi sounds Japanese thought it was just like a Toyota in terms of reliability. A couple weeks after buying the car, the transmission died. You'd think she learned her lesson there, nope. She said it must not have been taken care of so she fell into the zero-zero-zero Mitsu financing and bought a new (then) 02 Mitsu Eclipse.

After 6 months of insane repairs (under warranty) on a brand new Eclipse, she exercised the Lemon Law and had the car returned and they reimbursed her for the original cost of the car, so her loan was paid off in full and she had some extra $$$. She learned her lesson after the 2nd Eclipse and put her extra $$$ on a down payment for an RSX.

I have a friend with a similar Eclipse. Burns oil like crazy. Valve seals, etc. are all shot. The car doesn't have 100K on the odometer yet - and it failed the last inspection for our state. I had her put some "motor honey" into the crankcase so the car wouldn't smoke as much during the re-inspection. Ironically, it passed the inspection the 2nd time around.

That was nice of you, although the engine deserves nothing better than sand 🙂
