Full Test: 2004 Ferrari 575M

I just don't find that car to be all that good looking. I'd take an Aston Martin over it in a heartbeat. I liked the old Ferrari 550 Pininfarina Barchetta better than this new one. Still Aston Martin is better looking, though quite a bit slower.

It looks very good, but the review points out its lack of features that should be included in a grand-touring car.
I'd rather have the spider.

while rappers or other celebrities tends to show off their wealth by driving exotics sports car like Ferrari's, Lambos, and Aston's; I don't see ANY one drives a 575 or the 550.
Do majority of the population in the world even know what the heck a Maranello is when they see one?

Maybe because you live in Missouri.

Nope. this car is far more subtle than a 360 or an enzo. Most people would have no idea what it was without the badges.

Any IDIOT can tell that it's a Ferrari.

Believe it or not, in my experience you are wrong. Most people aren't concerned with expensive cars, because they will never own them, or it just doesn't pique their interest.

For example, I've watched bad boys 2 with over 30 people, and none of them knew what kind of car that was until it zoomed in on the ferrari badge at one point. (575 maranello)

Its the same way with high-end audio equipment. People don't know what martin-logan or velodyne are because they don't care.

I'd say that when most people think of ferrari, they think of the Testerossa (sp?) more than anything.

Rowr! The 550/575 has a timeless elegance that I think will wear very well over time (as opposed, for example, to more aggressive, but now very dated, appearance of the Testarossa/512TR).

I must admit that while I would regard a power trunk lid and adaptive cruise control as silly on a Ferrari, it would indeed be nice to have one-touch windows, and the lack of ANY cruise control is tough to embrace on a big GT car. Nitpicks, but still . . .

Nevertheless, the car is clearly on my top-ten list of currently-available models. Make mine silver, with burgundy leather, manual tranny, please.

By switching off the "ASR" button on the center stack and stomping the throttle from a dead stop, the F1 tranny will allow the engine to rev before dropping the clutch ? which it will then modulate to produce a near perfect launch. Ferrari has tuned the system to allow a fair amount of wheel spin, meaning ultimate acceleration time is probably sacrificed slightly in the name of noise and drama?but if that's the case, mission accomplished!

Now THAT is cool.

Only seen a 550 on the street twice. I saw a yellow one near my old house in N. Virginia. The second time was a silver one (could have been a 575, but I don't think so) in London.

I couldn't take my eyes off the car either time. They are sexy as hell.
