I suspect the ones that sound like music do cost a bit more : )

Nice, my little sister just started the violin and we're renting for $15/month. This is just what we needed, thanks Joker.

I got a cheap violin from ebay years back. it sucked. it felt like the neck was giong to break when you tried to tune it. i doubt this one is worth the money unless you jsut want to hang it on the wall.

Actually has quite a few good reviews (I mean reviews saying its good) on that page. Seems to be a nice little violin for beginners.

For only 6$ more you can get just about any colour you want. Scroll down the page to the related items section.

Thanks OP, lot of people in here griping about how this probably sucks, yadda yadda yadda, whatever, I ordered one because, for me, $1,200 hand blown, I mean, carved, violins ARE not the way to start learning. For all I know I will start it and then HATE the very concept of violins, now instead of a $1,200 bragging piece I have a $50 bit of kindling should I go that route.

Thanks again OP! Just the impetus I needed to finally stop saying "wouldn't it be nice to...."

Probably worth it for the case alone. Or if you've always wanted to smash a violin over someone's head but didn't want to spend alot of money to do it.

I have no use whatsoever-- WHATSOEVER! for a violin, but damn it, for that pittance of a price, I feel a strong tug.

They range from something around this price ($50) to millions.

I couldn't resist getting one of these since i wanted one since I was a kid. Can anyone suggest a resource to try and learn to play this by myself? I guess in the end i could splurge for lessons or something though I doubt I'd find the time to go.
