full screen issues on laptop with smaller resolutions

I'm having a problem-
when i try running an old game that uses 640x480 resolution, my laptop monitor only uses like 1/2 the screen. is there any way i can use the lower resolution for the game, but have it show on the full monitor? like have it stretch or something?

I have the same "problem", I think thats just the way it works.
Do desktop LCDs do that aswell?
